Surprised at MBH. He seemed to be back on the up following his stint with Macc, but it has gone horribly wrong for him since.

He also wasn't good enough.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

No. That's where they end up if that's their true level, as is the case with Barnes-Homer.

It's also about money as Whitehawk want to follow in Fleetwood's footsteps. Here's an article that gives a bit of background:

On the other side of the coin, New Mills is one of the shittiest places in England. Don't ever set foot there, if you can avoid it. Makes the scruffier places in Rochdale seem like St Moritz

Joe Widdowson - Revolution FC to Morecambe (loan)

At what level do players have to start getting jobs to supplement their footballing income? I'd assume without any knowledge that most of the Conference are full time now, but is it a case that all full time clubs have 100% full time players and all part time clubs have part time players only, or is there a mixture between the two? Surely the likes of Peter Cav haven't had to go out and get a job following his release from Dale.

Apparently Cav was offered a job by Liverpool coaching kids, then he took the Altringham Contract afterwards..

Signing the pile of steaming shite that is Matthew Barnes-Homer is not the way to emulate Fleetwood's rise through the football pyramid.

Most but not all Conference clubs are now full time. Almost all clubs below that will be semi-professional, unless they are being bankrolled (eg Whitehawk) or have policy of only having young players on full time contracts (ie you can pay them quite low salaries). I have got a feeling Stalybridge are/were an example of the latter. Some will have a mixture of semi-pros and full timers - Altrincham might be an example of that as they have reasonable support at that level and might be able to pay Cav enough to keep him going. However, surely if he is playing there at his age he has to be thinking about his future career even if he is full time. Even clubs with comparatively large fanbases (eg AFC Wimbledon and Chester) only went full time after a season in the Conference Premier.

Having said that, some non-league will pay stupid wages for the level they are at and you can make a reasonable living from especially if you have an accommodating employer and/or family. The latter is especially important when you consider some of the distances that have to be travelled even in levels three below league 2. An example is this year's Southern League where you have fixtures like Cambridge CIty v Truro (equivalent to Dale to Plymouth as the crow flies).

He was doing this before his ban also, so he is obviously quite highly thought of in the game.
