I'm lost for words.

It's a sad day. Not because of what was purportedly said before her murder, but that extremism can manifest itself everywhere.

God help us all!

Terrible tragedy. One of our best and brightest young MP's. My condolences to her family and friends.

It seems Jo already had a career helping other people before she became an MP

We need more like her, a loss to us all, but especially her family

Her murderer was mentally ill

Sad day indeed.........Jo seemed like a right good kid. Local lass working for her own beloved community.

Suspect described as a loner........no reference to mental issues.

I'd never heard of her before today, but after reading up a bit about her it seems she was a rising star and a genuine altruist.

RIP.

There are many thousands of people living apparently 'normal' lives, who have a 'history of mental illness'. That description loosely applies to anyone who has ever sought help for a depressive illness through the spectrum to someone who has serious and complex psychotic episodes.

The more pressing point here, is where and how did he obtain a firearm.

It is so easy to buy a weapon in this country he would have had no problem getting his hands on one. There are many thousands of illegal guns floating around ....

Poll: Hill in or out? 2nd referendum.....

Not sure whether in this case better gun control would have prevented the tragedy. He also had and used a knife.

Thats not to say we shouldnt have tighter gun control, but lets not think that with it, the world would be rosy.

There is a press report in the Telegraph that Mair purchased a book in 1999 in the US on how to make a gun. A receipt shows his name and an address in Batley.

She was my local MP but more than that she was my friend. Just horrendous. Yesterday was one of the strangest most emotional days I can ever remember. Local primary schools on lockdown whilst the killer was still at large and helicopters flying around etc whilst at the same time many of the pubs were packed with people celebrating watching the game. Her constituency is a fairly small place and lot of people knew her/her family.
