The longer this goes on and the more Bentley demonstrates his inability to positively affect games in our favour, the more unfathomable a two-year deal looks in hindsight. It’s always easy to be clever after the event but are you really telling me that after being sacked at Fylde, he wouldn’t have taken this job on a contract until the end of the season, with the promise of an extension if he kept us up?
I get that the board perhaps wanted a show of stability after seeing off MH but can we really afford to NOT sack Jim if things continue in this vein? I wouldn’t trust a rebuild in the National League to him. |  |

Whilst really wanting Jim to succeed, I am starting to get worried about his capability to do so. I don't think he knows what the best system to play is. It's also a bad sign when as a fan looking at the lineup before the game, you never know who is going to be in it and where some will be playing. The in-game changes that he makes that end up being effective are few and far between. More often than not, after making his late subs we look even more disorganised. The goalkeeper situation has been well covered by others.
I'd go back to 433, pick a settled side over a number of games that can get used to playing together (barring injuries) and try and establish some sort of style of play. |  | | |

To be honest, I don't know what the answer is, Bentley inherited a squad, which was so poor, as to be embarrassing. However Jim as also made mistakes in terms of team selection, for example he changed the team after the Bradford game,despite having two draws and a win. It is not the first time he as done this, earlier in the season he dropped White and brought John in at left back and in doing so destabilised the defence, and continued game after game, despite the team had been picking up points previously. He continues with the same formation, home and away, I can appreciate playing five at the back away from home, but playing a negative defensive system at home, which is not creative, the result being once we concede, we are in trouble. One thing about Bentley, I would say he is stubborn, he won't change formation or accept that his team selection is wrong and he is a reactive, rather proactive manager. Sadly he generally waits until we are two down before he makes any changes.
Gillingham brought into two experienced managers to assist Harris and they have improved, do we bring in somebody like Keith or Askey as D.o.F to assist him. |

I have to say I’m fast losing faith in Bentley.
That yesterday was the latest in a series of disgraces.
He is tactically inept. We’re setting up in a way that doesn’t suit the players. He is nearly as bad as Stockdale when it comes to making subs. The goalkeeper situation is an absolute joke. Have any players actually improved under him?
Why the hell are we playing five at the back again? I’d love someone to tell me our win ratio when playing five at the back under Stockdale and Bentley.

When he took over at Morecambe the home gate was 2 500. By the time Jim left, home support was regularly below 1 000. With Jim gone, Morecambe got promoted to L1 and their home gate is over 4 000. You can be abusive if you want, but Bentley needs to go now or (1) Dale will be relegated this year. (2) If Jim is still in charge next year, he'll take Dale down into National League North, (3) crowds will crash because his football is boring and negative. (4) Dale will go bust like Bury.

Personally id stick with Bentley.
Too early to see if the new arrivals will make a difference.
By the end of Feb things will look much clearer.
Should we still be in the bottom spot then by the end of March it will be all over.
At this point i can only see us relegated and if thats the case again id stick with Bentley.
The thought of Hilly or even Jim Mcnulty/Henderson stepping in fills me with dread..

If you fill players heads with differing systems and minor positional changes every week you start to lose the things that they are actually competent at. Playing Taylor on the left side of defence because we dont have enough left footed defenders, pushing Lloyd into midfield instead of being an actual winger, something we havent had for ages.
Any squad needs a balance of left and right sided players, in L2 it needs height athleticism and power with a dash of pace. Above all it needs to be capable of scoring goals, one more than it concedes. Currently we have 5 genuine forwards one of whom is Campbell, 12 defenders and half a dozen midfielders.
From a management point of view, once you have a capable squad in the right proportions, its all about motivation. I'm not sure a ranting manager is the solution, especially, when players know that there is usually another club they can go to. It doesn't build the neccessary cameradarie, team spirit or all round will to win. Training grounds, systems, fine margins and the rest are as nothing when compared to a team that works as a single entity with purpose, unity and single mindedness. Too many people in football want to over-complicate what is a simple game, and Charles Hughes was right all those years ago, most goals are scored from inside a box 12 yards by12 yards in front of the goal posts. Put the ball in there often enough and have players (note the plural) running into it and you will score goals. |  | | |

Charles Hughes wasn’t some sort of football revolutionary! Of course, scoring goals means the ball needs to go in the box and you won’t find me arguing about the modern game being far too over complicated with too much passing. However, Hughes was about as clued up as John Beck or any other Sunday League manager. |  |

Dodgson is a left-back and he's not really a big lad.
White is regularly injured.
