It's in the stars....maybe! 21:37 - Mar 11 with 4708 viewsTVOS1907

In Dale's 1986/87 Great Escape season, we played Lincoln on the Saturday 14th March, gaining a 1-1 draw.

We would have won, but Lyndon Simmonds had a late penalty saved.

The following Saturday, we took on a Peterborough side who arrived on a seven-match winning run.

In what became a famous game, Dale won 3-2.

OK, so Lincoln this time is on 13th March, the game in 1987 was at home and I might be losing my marbles, but we need to clutch at any straws we can at the moment and mine are statistical!

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

What with this post and the forum, for some reason the first verse of an Elvis Costello song came into my head.

History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies, the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues

I'll name that song in 3 ........ Beyond belief

(sorry)

Slight difference to that season being we had a shed load of games in hand.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Phew I thought you had lost it then.
I do however appreciate your optimism or is the same as all of us blind desperation for , first a goal and then a win?
Stranger things have happened .

I think I'd be happier going into tomorrow's game with Welch in the net - a highly competent goalkeeper who actually belonged to Dale; Bramhall at CB - a no nonsense defender capable of a few goals; Grant at LB, an actual hard defender played in the correct position, and a front line of Simmonds and Parlane, one of whom was on fire and the other of whom had the guile expected of a seasoned international forward.

As it is, we are going in with none of those things.

So what has happened over the past month or so that has stopped Dale scoring goals? It wasn't that long ago when they was banging them in left right and centre,I'm aware that they was also letting in the same amount of goals but Dale was still scoring wasn't they

Someone more informed than me on tactics and formations will be able to answer that, chalky, but basically our creativity has ceased to be.

The song that’s on repeat in my head is Morrissey's Boxers:

Losing in front of your home crowd
You wish the ground
Would open up and take you down
And will time never pass?
Will time never pass for us?

We're not doomed yet. I would almost believe we had a chance to escape if we'd changed the manager, even this week, meaning new ideas and a bit of a buzz. Alas, we have not and I honestly can't see things improving.

Last goal was scored in the 39th minute

Since then, 7 goalless matches

I think you're averaging at 90 minutes*, whereas a more accurate average is around 95 minutes (in one game, can't remember which now, there were 8 minutes added time in the second half, for instance)

That makes a minimum of 720 minutes, probably longer

*Edit: averaging at 90 minutes, it'd be 681

That's a frightening stat
How will Dale and BBM do in League Two if the drop happens?

I hope that you will all still go down to Spotland on match days as the club still needs you (well your money) to survive, the last thing that it needs after a horrendous couple of seasons financially for the club is for some much needed revenue to dry up,I don't want to see Dale get the drop but I also don't want them to slip into even further trouble because of fans staying away,I know that there's a lot that's not happy with whats going on but RAFC are going to need you all more then ever in 2021/2022 season

So we've effectively been playing for half a day non-stop without scoring.

He's got to worth a cheeky offer to lure him to Spotland?

Edit: looks like the "defensive philosophy" has spread to Germany .........

In a perverse sort of way I want to do it. Much as a curious part of me is wondering whether we can beat (by being worse than) our worst ever home record.

We will continue to follow Dale in whichever league they play. But losing our League 1 status has always been avoidable but sadly heads have been buried in the sand.
