Some of my favorite comments on matters of operational nature: Michael Fallon: "Absolutely nothing happened, but if it did, it all went wonderfully well. There was a routine shakedown and demonstration that HMS Vengeance passed with flying colours. At no time was the effectiveness of our nuclear deterrence in any doubt when the thing that didn’t happen happened." "HMS Vengeance successfully completed a shakedown and demonstration and came home safely. What made this test-firing particularly successful was that the missile had flown in the wrong direction. If we don’t know where our nukes are heading, then how could our enemies? You couldn’t ask for a better deterrent than that." Tom Tugendhat: “a 98% success rate in testing is still excellent and shows we are 100% ready.” | |
