Saints European Hopes Boosted By West Ham Defeat.
Saturday, 7th May 2016 17:22

Saints had a double boost today ahead of the trip to White Hart Lane with both West Ham and Chelsea losing.

Saints hopes of a late run into sixth place were boosted as West Ham United surprisingly went down at home 4-1 to Swansea City, this means that although Saints are still two points behind them, a win at Spurs will jump us above them and with West Ham facing a difficult home game against Manchester United in midweek followed by a hard trip to Stoke City, there is all to play for for Saints against Spurs.

Another boost was Chelsea's defeat at Sunderland which now means they cannot overtake Saints, so we are now guaranteed a minimum 8th place finish.

Manchester United's win over Norwich means that unless they lose both of their final two games we cannot catch them, however it also means that they are only a point behind Manchester City and back in the race for a Champions league place, tat means they will go to West Ham looking for a win.

All in all a good weekend so far for Saints, now we need to truly make it a super Sunday by beating Spurs and hoping that Liverpool drop points against Watford.

This kind of opportunity presented to us on plate by the below par Hammers always worries me; it is almost a tradition here that just when we need to produce the goods we fluff our lines.

Beating Spurs at WHL is never going to be an easy task but let's hope that the 'good' Saints turn up today and at least give it a good go.
