Yes, that is exactly how I see it. Can you think of a more plausible explanation? If we had realised he was shit before we signed him, I'm sure we wouldn't have done. Same goes for Tabanou.
Poor coaching may be an issue and I'd class whoever employed Beattie and KOL as culpable too. As has been said many times, we have a smaller budget than most of our competitors and therefore have less margin for error with recruitment. It has to be more cost effective to employ quality scouts than to rely on agent recommendations and end up blasting £8-9m on players who look decent in France and Portugal but aren't good enough for the PL. I know it worked with Bony, but I seriously doubt we did enough research into Eder or Tananou. | | | |
