22nd January 2013 - Cameron announces Tory pledge to hold EU referendum if they were to win a majority in the 2015 General election.
18th September 2014 - Scottish referendum. The Scottish vote to remain part of the UK.
7th May 2015 - General election and Tories win a majority, Scotland votes SNP en masse....contributing to Tory victory
23rd June 2016 - EU referendum. The UK votes out.
By the time of the Scottish referendum the Scottish electorate knew;
- that UKIP were the biggest party in EU elections
- that the Tories had pledged an in/out referendum
- that the Lib Dems and Labour had pledged an in/out referendum in the future if there was to be any further transfer of power to the EU
- that the EU and the Euro was in a mess (a deliberate, carefully constructed mess) which could only be solved by further political integration within the EU....sidelining us.

But surely (and not having read the article) the UK government would have to place border controls between England and Scotland? In effect expelling Scotland from the United Kingdom?
Wouldn't this also mean the same for Ulster and so therefore creating a reunited Ireland?
That's the stark reality and I wonder if "wee jimmy krankie" or indeed the populace of Scotland had the stomach to go it alone?
Same goes for the unionists in Northern Ireland.

I call Bollocks on that. Every nation has the right to self determination and Scotland, very sensibly, voted in their own national self interest to stay in Europe.
That vote has to respected, just as the (self harm) Brexit vote has to be honoured - even though its against the welsh national self interest.
The welsh people have been taken for mugs by Boris, Farage, Gove etc.

Scotland as a nation isn't legally in the EU though. The UK is the Member State. If Scotland wants to be a Member State in it's own right, it would (a) need to be an independent state (i.e. leave the UK), and (b) then apply to be a member. It would take many years, even if they were able to work on some elements of (a) and (b) simultaneously.
I wouldn't begrudge them for trying though if that's what the people clearly want (and it looks like they do).
