I get to vote in Labour's leadership election! 09:37 - Jul 25 with 1665 viewsLohengrin

I've received an e-mail informing me that I'm eligible to vote in Labour's up-coming leadership election from that nice union Assistant General Secretary, JP McHugh.

Now that I've finished laughing it just goes to underline what an absolute shambles Labour is in. Still, as I've always maintained, that nice Mr Corbyn is doing a sterling job. He's exceeding my fondest expectations.

#Team Corbyn!

He's getting my vote x 4 also.

I still think he's on the Tory payroll to totally destroy Labour,he's doing a fine job so far.

Well done that man.

Are you a member of the Party? If so you should be given the vote. If not then it could be said Labour are truly democratic in giving you the vote. If JC wins when people with your political views are given a stab then it truly will be a momentous victory ;-)

I do believe corbyn is the best man for the job and he'll be getting my vote, but that's more to do with the shocking standard of the competition rather than his own personal gravitas.

Boys, labour's f*cked whatever.

Corbyn will walk in anyway...a) the active membership are mostly nutters and b) the election will be conducted under strict North Korean rules.

You have a point. JC is not everyone's idea of a leader. (I am happy with him as Leader btw). You are also right that there is a shocking lack of quality in the PLP. IF JC wins I can see a number of deselections taking place at Branch level and it will then be the responsibility of the Members to elect quality politicians who reflect the views of the membership. In such circumstances I can see talent rising to the top and I am sure JC would not stand in their way if such a person made a bid for the Leadership. This will take a couple of years but I live in hope that we will have a PLP that reflects the views of the Party by then.

The active membership aren't the problem. It's the inactive entryists who think they have the moral high ground that are killing the party. The problem is they now make up over half the party.

The membership picked David Miliband way back when. It was only the equally ludicrous and perverse old block voting system that saw Ed over the line.

The cult of Corbyn from the middle class lefties is killing the party.

Very pessimistic. As a new member of the Labour Party I will have a better view of things at Branch level in the future.
Anything is possible in politics and, if you are correct, this will give the opportunity for the rise of a centre Party. Be it Lib Dem or whatever. Right, Centre and Left parties with manifestos reflecting that would be the ideal scenario for me. It gives the voter control. We could even have room for extreme Right and Left parties on the periphery. The former would give Loh and Bluey a party to vote for. They could then vote Conservative if said party decided to march on Poland ;-)

That's a good call. Do you think that the constituency parties will come to their senses and stand up to any stalin type retribution when Corbyn is re-elected?

I thought McDonnel had no shame as usual. Him and his ilk are destroying the whole shooting match and accusing others. Sad to see, when an opposition has never been more needed.

What does the sensible (ie the genuine centre-left, not the closet tories) wing do next?

Not everyone's idea of a leader? Feck me! Fair play, PP, you've just won the understatement of the century prize.

In the news clips I've seen of Corbyn speaking at public rallies lately, Diane Abbott is always standing behind him and just to one side, reminding me uncannily of Matthew Corbett and Sooty. I'm sure she's got her hand up his jacksie and is pulling his strings.

Gonna be at least five years or so before Labour sort them selvesout and
appeal to the oublic again. Of course thats assuming they find a leader worthy of be coming prime minister of the uk. A shocking lack of candidates for that job I see.

too much squabbling too many divisions and back biting they are a party in disarray.

they need to rip it up and start again.

I'm a member of a Trades Union but I have never been a Labour supporter, never mind a card-carrying member, which is the point of the OP. What a shambles!

Apart from being utterly unelectable, he's also spectacularly incompetent and only happy when he's preaching to his adoring, deluded fans.

Many former Corbynistas have come to their senses since last year but it simply wont be enough.

McDonnel stooped to a new low yesterday with regards to his internal affairs. A complete hypocritical w**nker. It's his momentum crowd that have soured the mood in the party. I've never known anything like it.

People like myself will just have to wait it out I guess. I'm not leaving my party over to the unwashed nutters, middle class snobs, entryist Socialist worker types of which now swell our previously dwindling masses. The influx of new members come from the wealthier parts of Swansea while working class branches remain roughly the same size and that will tell you all you need to know about the direction of the Labour party right now.

Leaving to defect to another party is still a capital offence in my books, regardless of context.

Why can't you defect to another party? It's not a football team. Opinions and political parties are constantly changing.

That just sums up the attitude of Corbyn and his mates. Anti-this, Anti-that; zero actual policies. Chuffed that he now has a focus that he's comfortable with whilst the most right wing cabinet I can remember pulls on a monster strap on to roger stupid the constituency he is supposed to represent.

Meanwhile, the daft jerk is preaching to the converted for two months to make it feel like he's important. Self delusion at it's worst.

Join the Lib Dems? If the party does have an extreme membership that takes it too far to the left then they are unelectable so no worries. The shame currently lies with the PLP not McDonnell. Remain a card holding member fight the cause at Branch level.
