How much of a bugger is it to get the bonnet open? I assume it's a simple case of unscrewing once open and replacing, or do you need to get any new sundries to connect the changed bonnet?

If totally jammed , I would cut a hole at the front of the bonnet catch area with a disc cutter ( covering all glass before hand - you dont want metal filings in your glass ). By doing this you don't add more damage to the flitch panel ( bonnet socket part ) . Then an assessment can be made - the bonnet takes 2 mins to remove once parted from the locking mechanism .

Cheers Porsche - by cutting the bonnet you mean the area by the VW badge where you open the bonnet?

I can do that myself...
Yeah, just above the badge.
Before you cut it and depending on the damage, get someone to keep the bonnet lever pulled inside the car while you thump on the front of the bonnet. If your lucky, it might pop.
