When it comes to hardline fanatical religious types, they think that their denomination and their denomination only is the righteous and chosen one, whilst all the other denominations do not meet God's criteria in their minds.
One lot does not agree with the other lot, that disagrees with the next lot after that, meaning only one lot will go to heaven, but how come they are so convinced that they are correct when? It is God and only God that makes the rules and regulations and decides not them. And only one denomination can be correct? | |

The idea of God being a nice benevolent loving warm chap who loves us and wants the best for us is an incredibly modern interpretation.
For the entirety of human history God is someone to be utterly feared. The only way to save your soul is through total submission. He is angry and vengeful and jealous and will happily strike you down for the slightest misdemeanour. Despite his genocidal tendencies he will still feel he has the moral high ground to judge you harshly and cast you into the eternal lake of fire because you touched a woman’s boobies once when you weren’t married to her.

A silverback gorilla is generally quite a quiet shy and retiring beast and enjoys spending his days sitting on his massive buttocks chewing on some leaves. But when he feels his territory or ‘people’ are under threat he is capable of an explosion of remarkable violence and would not hesitate to brutally kill anyone or anything in an incredibly painful way without mercy.
Is that really in essence any different from what Putin is doing? Or when the allies dropped the bomb on Hiroshima? Pretty much all military action in history has always been framed by the concept that we have to do this to protect ourselves and our people. And people generally get behind it.

The Presbyterian guy told me that God would for example forgive (he of a different religion) beheading serial killer Jihadi John if he repented his sins by seeking salvation from Jesus. I learnt at the same time that Jesus is a prophet in the Koran relegated to "son of Mary" (and not God) status.
Rather cruelly and outrageously unfair by comparison i.e. a kind, loving, selfless and decent charity volunteer for example would go to hell if sins were not repented however minor. And I was told that even thinking can be sinful e.g. someone can commit adultery just by thinking the wrong way. That is what I was told
So yes indeed God does move in mysterious ways. And? You can see why one lot in Northern Ireland was just as bad as the other lot at times. | |
