Well the punishment for breaking the limit,

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/police-confirm-how-punish-drivers-

Given how many idiots are on the roads, the delivery drivers under pressure and the actual difficutly in staying below 20 (it is difficult, I do it every week when I go to Cardiff and it's harder than you'd think, specially going downhill) there will be a lot of speeding going on.

The Senedd expect the fire brigade to become a road safety unit, how stupid is that? The fire brigade have their job and it's hard enough for them to do that the way the Senedd behaves.

Then there's the pollution problem, all those cars tootling around in second gear will fill the streets with pollution, it'll rise and rise and the few accidents stopped by this madness will be replaced tenfold and more in the years to come by serious health issues, those with asthma can look out, better buy your respirators now.

I wonder if cancers will also increase?

By the time we have all gone electric, assuming we all do, thousands of lives will be blighted by illness.

Mmmmm charging haulage companies and businesses for HGV usage, sure will make Wales really attractive for inward investment and make Wales a darn competitive country of commerce what with its 1960's transport network.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. a 50mph limit along the length of the M4 in Wales is only a matter of time now they think they can get away with it, aided and abetted by the useful idiots who keep defending this 20mph crap.

I work for a smallish specialist engineering business, I won't give the name away for obvious reasons.
Sales and income is growing in Scotland and England but in Wales income is down over the last 12 months. Welsh businesses are down on their utilisation rates for the equipment we supply and service.
I'm spending 7 nights a month away from Wales where I used to spend 3 a month.
My sales and income are just about on target but I'm spending an additional 32 hours a month travelling. My boss has said if it gets too much the company will relocate me, if things continue like this I'll have to relocate.

Useful idiot here, the type of idiot who would like to see the combined death and serious injury accident rate in 30mph zones greatly reduced. Not someone who comes out with stupid statistics regarding 10 people being killed by cows over a 10 year period when 93 people were killed on Welsh roads last year and over 4,400 were injured, some seriously with, no doubt, life changing injuries. 51% of these accidents being in 30mph roads.

When you consider the length of the Welsh section of he M4 and the two lane system west of Bridgend along with the tail backs form the Severn bridge to Newport then its not inconceivable that a 50 will be imposed either by policy or by the volume of traffic on it.
When tail backs were being experienced west bound at Junction 33 for those who are forced to work in cardiff it took approximately 20 months from proposal to completion that an extra lane was added to improve the flow and stop tailbacks on the hard shoulder. Fats forward to a very similar situation at the Birchgrove exit which has been ongoing for quite a few years then nothing,
The clowns in cardiff has just passed an motion allowing them to impose a toll charge dispite Drakeford saying they had no intention of doing so ,Its acoming

Not even the Welsh Government pushing these stupid rules through thinks that the death rate will "greatly reduce". That nonsense has already been thoroughly debunked on this very thread yet it keeps getting repeated.

I suppose time will tell if there is a major reduction in deaths and serious injuries in the future. We don't have statistics for how many accidents are caused by speeding motorists, the assumption is reducing the speed limit will eradicate this. I don't believe it will, motorists who continually speed and cause accidents will continue to speed and cause accidents, dropping the speed limit will make no difference. As I say time will tell, some will site statistics from other cities and countries but none are relevant unless a default speed limit is in place there.

Never mind eh?

The decimation of the Welsh economy is a small price to pay for a statistically negligible difference in accident rates.

There are plans to introduce it here and its meeting with massive opposition.
Locally ,there is a narrow B road that links two busy villages . It has a 50 mph limit ,which is ludicrous given the twisty nature of the road andvision blocked by high hedgerows creating blind bends .
However, several urban roads with wide open vistas and sparsely populated could see 20moh introduced .

The stopping distance of modern cars is light years away from when the Highway Code was introduced .

Biggest issue we have are drugged drivers . These are quite capable of keeping to a 20 mph limit

Motorways are the safest roads in the UK. Most accidents and injuries, fatalities are on rural roads, not built up areas or motorways.
Something which came out on my speed awareness course.
As someone who does a fair but of driving. Ive noticed the dual carriage way in Carmarthen and from Abergavenny to Monmouth with temporary 50mph limits. Can't see why though?

I've moved house three times for work, twice paid for by employers and once I self funded. When I was young I was happy to move around and when I was renting it was good to move around a lot and I've enjoyed living in 6 or 7 cities. Now I'm older I'm less inclined to move around the country and spend time away from family and friends, but maybe one more move would be necessary before I retire.

Precisely.

if this was about safety they'd be concentrating on rural roads, which as you say often have absurd speed limits on them (it's not uncommon for single track roads through winding hedgerows to be 60mph), and probably a high proportion of drunk drivers too.

But it's not about safety. It never was.

To back up what you are saying, that road I mentioned is a perfect example.
National speed limit applies with farms and associated access points adjacent . Lethal.

If it was truly about safety (anyone with half brain cell would know it isnt) then why can't money be spent on making crossing roads safely. Just do a drive through Llansamlet enterprise zone around the lake and there is not one dedicated pedestrian crossing, I keep repeating I know but there's not one between lower Skewen and Birchgrove, or throughout Bonymaen and Winchwen all densely populated areas , I do wonder what the criteria is to have a crossing installed ,I knowing there's one pedestrian collision between a them and a motor vehicle then a speed camera us installed as was the case of Peniel Green Road.

0
The 20MPH punishments on 12:30 - Nov 22 with 563 viewsDr_Winston

In fairness the volume of pedestrian traffic around the Enterprise Zone probably doesn't justify the expenditure on crossing points. Even Swansea council included it as part of their network to stay at 30mph.

I regularly travel to Glais via Llansamlet and Birchgrove and can't think of many pedestrian crossing points along the way.

It’s not a case of never mind eh. That’s just a stupid response.

Jachmanandboy has stated that his business has been in decline for the past 12 months which is sad to read, that is way before the 20mph was introduced.

You keep on referring to a reduction in accidents as being negligible, I would say that with almost a 1000 people being seriously injured on our roads even a 10% reduction in these statistics would be quite substantial.

A quick question are you as concerned about people dying ambulances or because they can't have one ? , If you believe that something must be done then why not be a tiny bit vociferous in condemning the way the Welsh government manage health services in Wales

Some people would still defend Drakeford and his clowns no matter what idiotic things they do.

Shame is, Wales has more than it's fair share of blindfolded voters.
