I have just watched a program where he talked about his life. It was phenomenal!

He is possibly the greatest pilot the world has ever seen. He served in WW2, he has flown a greater variety of aircraft than any other pilot (487) and completed more carrier landings than any other pilot (2,407, a record that has stood for 65 years and will quite possibly never be broken) and he even met Hermann Goerring!!
And at the tender age of 95 he is still lecturing (or was in January of this year) and among his firsts is the first carrier landing of a jet engined aircraft. he worked for the Americans AND the Germans too.
All in all, a great character, a living legend and humble with it. |  |

Yeah seen that.
I would agree he is britains best pilot EVER.without any doubt.
His exploits are the stuff of Boys Own annual.was very valuable in the war. |  |
