It's not difficult. Not everyone has Sky, plenty go down the pub to watch games. As for games being yawnfests, it's live sport for gods sake. Not every game entertaining on paper works out live, tactics, performances all factor.

The good old days, when there was the occasional league game shown live ( big teams obviously, as "lesser" teams in the top division weren't important enough to show ) with no coverage of league games outside the top flight .
All with a staggering lack of money flowing down the leagues and indeed to non-league / grassroots.
