Some hack from the Sunday mirror stating a case for Leon Britton playing for England

He said that he has consistently played in front of the back 4 controlling the game for ages and it's a shame he's never been rewarded with an England cap.

Couldn't agree more... Their loss!!!

Poll: Priority for new manager?

Perhaps the FA are petrified about what his Melyn in-laws will get up to in the VIP lounge!

Was walking to the game yesterday and overheard a conversation between a group of Fulham fans - "This is the side leon britton plays for it isnt? Yep, hes a great little player, we need somebody like him"..

Cue discussion from them on all the good things theyve seen him do. I think alot of other fans see what hes about - just the international coaches dont. Its clearly a size thing. Shame they forget Makelele was small as well.

"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."

I hope Leon never plays for England - the international setup there is more than capable of taking him backwards as a player

Nah.Too late for that.Leon is old enough now to know his role and no england set up would change that.

I still maintain that the current coaching setup would never know what to do with Leon.

You can just see the coaches talking about him.

Does he make big tackles?
No.

Does he hit long range passes?
No.

Then what does he do?
Ummmmm.

I think he deserves a call up, any other country in the world would have by now. It would cap an amazing story for a player but sadly I can't see him ever getting a call.

Never gonna happen. Shame for him but Woy is a cvnt. He's already sais there will be no new faces before the WC. He should be sacked for those comments alone. Cvnt.

Call it what you want, but we could have an english striker scoring 30 premier league goals a season and they still wouldn't call up a Swansea City player.

We did have an English player scoring 30 goals in a season and his name was Bob Latchford, but the English Manager was a prat then like that knob Woy is now!

Lots. Nowhere near good enough to play for England.

Need more than short passing ability

Couldn't disagree more i'm afraid, what international football is all about is ball retention, & slow build up play and that's what all the pundits, newspapers bang on about after poor England performances, that's what Swansea and Leon in particular excels at, his pass completion rate is one of the top in europe's elite, he breaks up play, and always gives others around him an outlet, very rarely gives the ball away, he is an absolute diamond in that role, but if the coaching/ scouting set up at England cant see that it's their loss, IMO he is TOO good for the England side because he will have players around him that CANT keep possession.

Well in the opinion of roy hodgson he is not good enough. They need more than Leon.

As good a player as he has been for scfc, not an England international. Not anywhere near Gerard lampard carrick Wiltshire Rooney Et al

So prosser you would pick Leon Britton for England then, good for you. To my knowledge your not in the running for the England managers job so it's rather irrelevant.

To reiterate their are probably at least 15 to 20 midfielders ahead of him. Don't let it bother you mun.
