Either VMWare Player or Virtual Box, both of which are free.
Simply set up a ubuntu based virtual machine on any half capable modern pc/laptop, then browse to your heart's content on dodgy porn sites, purveyors of illegal software, etc, where you can carry out antivirus checks at a safe distance. And should anything get through you may simply delete the whole thing later leaving your main system pristine.
Also for your main pc I would recommend Winpatrol. Personally I don't bother with CCleaner, but I do use the Revo uninstaller to clean up when I am uninstalling software. |  |

Do any of these registry cleaners/uninstallers clean up trial versions of programs such that i can redownload them? I had a trial version of Minitab, now expired which i need to reinstall temporarily. I uninstalled the original using the standard windows uninstaller. Downloaded a new trial version but it detects that i've previously installed it, presumably from registry entries. I don't want to mess with regedit in case i do damage.

You could do this easily with a virtual machine if you have access to a different windows product key (I'm assuming this is windows only).
Once it is set up but before you have installed the software you can even go though a process known as cloning in VMWare so you can always revert back to the pre-installation state, and rinse and repeat as many times as you like. | |
