The FIFA rankings are accessed to determine groupings for 'pre qualification' which makes them anything but meaningless. Regardless of their accuracy, Wales ranking now if groups were being chosen for the next World Cup would potentially mean being drawn as a seeded team and not as an unseeded team. Hardly meaningless, and very beneficial. | |

Wales moved up because the timeframe for the ranking moved forward and past results dropped out. They're not meant to be a true reflection. hey're meant to rank teams on current form to allocate seeding accordingly.
It's not perfect by any means-but it annoys me when people say "Wales aren't the 9th best team in the world, that's stupid!". That's not the point of it. | | | |
