Musings of a Royal Welch man 13:16 - May 30 with 1122 views | Boundy | Once a Fusilier. Once when we were 17 Young soldiers bright and new On the parade ground, shoulders back Standing straight and true The Sergeant Major would scream out commands We’d wince and follow through Precise and sharp, eventually As one, when the bugle blew The sweat would glisten on our brows But no drop would we shed We pushed on as our muscles ached, As our open blisters bled. We knew that there’d be weekend, Leave would be coming soon And we’d take our energy into town With most of our wages too Then show the locals how it was done At least until curfew Ah boys, where did the time go Since we were lithe young men Unstoppable and in our stride Fearless, ballsy, Full of pride Now once a year we meet up And we are boys once more We laugh, share stories, even shed tears For those who’ve gone before Some have faced an enemy, grown old, experienced pain But back amongst our brothers We’re all 17 again!

Also just out of curiosity, when you took the oath, didn't it clash with your indy leanings or were you not an indy supporter back then?
Musings of a Royal Welch man on 21:53 - May 30 with 986 views | theloneranger | ... "A SOLDIER'S FINAL INSPECTION" ... The soldier stood and faced God ... Which must always come to pass ... He hoped his shoes were shining ... Just as brightly as his brass ... "Step forward now ... you soldier ... How shall I deal with you ?? Have you always turned the other cheek ?? To My Church have you been true?" ... The soldier squared his shoulders and said ... "No ... Lord ... I guess I haven't ... Because those of us who carry guns ... Can't always be a saint ... I've had to work most Sundays ... And at times my talk was tough ... And sometimes I've been violent ... Because the world is awfully rough ... But ... I never took a penny ... That wasn't mine to keep ... Though I worked a lot of time ... and the bills got just too steep ... And I never passed a cry for help ... Though at times I shook with fear ... And sometimes ... God ... forgive me ... I've wept unmanly tears ... I know I don't deserve a place ... Among the people here ... They never wanted me around ... Except to calm their fears ... If you've a place for me here Lord ... It needn't be so grand ... I never expected or had too much ... But if you don't ... I'll understand" ... There was a silence all around the throne ... Where the saints had often trod ... As the soldier waited quietly ... For the judgment of his God ... "Step forward now ... you soldier ... You've borne your burdens well ... Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets ... You've done your time in Hell" ...!! ... "To All That Serve" ...
| Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎 |

I served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers which was destroyed by Blair's government ( as were many other famous infantry regiments ) with its amalgamation with the Royal Regiment of Wales , so I had left before the dirty deed in 2006

Not at all, not at the time anyway. I was ill informed. A young 17 year old wanting to do something other than college or uni as i was too thick. I didn't start reading Welsh history until my late 20s
