Brian Laws Defies Belief At Times

Home >Story Index> Just What Is Brian Laws On

Brian Laws is of course well known to Swansea fans for his actions and comments during the two legged play-off semi final against Scunthorpe three years ago. He claimed at the time that we were not a good team and that the whole world hates him. Or words to that effect. His comments after last night's game gave you a reasonably good indication that not many people outside Glandford Park probably do like Brian Laws.
His after match press conference included these comments " I feel like it's a game lost. When you're 2-1 up and concede a goal with the last kick of the game, I'm obviously very disappointed. Games are won by decisions, and we've lost two points today through decisions that are very, very dubious. " I've spoken to the referee on the pitch, but I had to bite my lip. Where did he get the corner in the first place? You lot there are watching it just as much as I was. If you can tell me it's touched one of our players, then you're a better man than I am, and you're better than a video! " There was no contact whatsoever and he's given a corner. It's led to a free-kick at the edge of the box. It's almost like he was trying so hard to give Swansea a last chance to have a go at us. He's apparently given the free-kick because he said it was dangerous - If it's a dangerous tackle, haven't you got to make contact? There was no contact. " It seems to me he was trying desperately hard to give them a result. That might be me bleating about it and having a go at the referee, but at the end of the day, they do make the decisions. Win, lose or draw, it's sometimes down to them."
Let's just look at a few facts. It was a corner. The laws of the game state that if a defender gets the last touch before it crosses the goal line then a corner shall be given. Hence the referee followed the rule book and gave it. Mr Laws may also like to know that free-kicks can be given for sheer intent and there was no other intent in his defender when he lunged for the tackle that led to the free kick other than to bring the man down. The referee quite rightly blew his whistle again and to be honest should quite probably have booked the offending player.
Yet again we have sour grapes from a man whose side did not deserve to win the game but of course he conveniently forgets that fact. But to go on and say that the referee was trying to give them a result was plain stupidity on the side of Brian Laws. The FA need to look at those comments and bring him to task over them. Mr Laws then also needs to take a hard look at himself and decide that if he wants to remain in football he needs to have a better understanding of the way that the rules of the games work.
Of course, he could also point a finger or two at his goalkeeper. Mumford's free kick was sweetly hit but someone mentioned to me after the game that the keeper should have saved it as the ball was not in the top corner. An opinion of someone who I would respect and that is our own keeper Roger Freestone who of course would have had the perfect view from where he was standing.
And of course Mr Laws and his toy throwing is not unusual. I seem to remember an incident with him, a guy called Bonetti and a broken cheek bone at Grimsby and also he had a little tantrum in the dressing room last night if the story on the message board last night was to be believed.
The usual sandwiches were delivered to the away team dressing room after the game and Laws in another paddy told the bar staff to stuff the sandwiches but not in the normal way if you get the drift.
Brian Laws is a man that I would not entertain in my house and he is, in my opinion, a disgrace to the name of Scunthorpe United Football Club. His actions and comments of last night will not be forgotten by Swansea City fans and he can be assured of the usual warm reception next time he visits the Vetch Field. And I seriously hope that the FA look into his comments after last night's game.
Brian Laws you are a very sore loser.
