One of Swansea and Wales greatest. Let's hope, although it should have been done sooner, there will now be a permanent memorial to an immense footballer and person.

The greatest sportsman in Welsh history and a legend for Swansea to be proud of. It would be great if your new stadium could be named after him. It was shameful that he was never knighted. Welsh fans must get together to make some kind of memorial to him. RIP King John

RIP John my thoughts are with his family and friends. Would be a great idea if one of the stands at the new ground could be named after him. A true Swansea legend.

Just like to add my condolencies to the Great man, as a fan of italian football he is still worshipped over there "the Gentle Giant" The only British player to master serie a Il Gigante Buono... is a Juventus Legend and will be equally missed over there as he will be here RIP And i think the fact this is the headline in otaly today (milan derby day) yet even the milan based gazettoo dello sport front page...Addio Charles, gigante buono.

I translated that page into english, some weird stuff.......... LONDON, 21 February 2004 - John Charles ce has not made it. The former forward of the Juventus and the national Welshman, seriously sick, is died in its house of Leeds to the age of 72 years. A successive niggle had induced the doctors to amputate the fingers of the skillful foot. Charles disputed five samples to you in the Juventus, to leave from 1957, marking 93 left nets in 155 with the bianconeri. The Juventus has announced that tomorrow to Bologna it will observe a minute of Hush and it will play with the mourning to the arm. Weird?

scousejack Posted on 21/2 13:36Email this Message | THE JOHN CHARLES STADIUM

NAME IT OFFICIALLY SO AND STOP PROCRASTINATING. nO OTHER (APART FROM IVOR) COME CLOSE.aLL THE WORLD REVERED HIM and everyone who met him loved him. I used to know Denis Law quite well through business and often talked about Charlo. Denis(who was a legend in my eyes) said he(charlo) had no idea how good he was and was mystified why every one loved him so much.Ive been dreading this day for a while cos I feel that with Ivor and Charlo gone,a part of my childhood in Cwmbwrla and Manselton and Gendros had gone. Like Reeco very upset today. love to you all from the Wirral Swansea born-Swansea die

Like everyone else I feel sad and offer commiserations to his family. But as great a welshman as John Charles was, he played for Leeds, Juventus, Cardiff and Wales, not Swansea. I don't believe we should name the stadium after any player, but maybe stands could be named after players and then it should be shared between soccer and rugby player greats who wore the shirt of the teams playing there, two Swansea City FC players and one each Swansea and Neath RFC players.
