Vorm - We Let Ourselves Down
Sunday, 16th Mar 2014 09:26

I am not sure it is any consolation after a poor home defeat to hear the words of the players but the good news (if there is any) is that at least none of them are trying to talk up yesterday's performance into something that it simply wasn't.

The latest in the line of players commenting was Michel Vorm who was criticised widely for both West Brom goals scored yesterday when he was beaten near post for the first and was completely static for the second.

It would seem unfair to lay the blame on him for the goals as he was offered little support by his defence with shambolic defending at best which left the space for both West Brom goals to be scored.

For the second game running a game that we were completely dominating was taken away from us as we sat back, gave the ball away with alarming regularity and allowed a very poor side low on confidence into the game so much so that they were positively brimming with the stuff come the final whistle.

"It was very frustrating," said Vorm. "And very similar to the last home game against Crystal Palace.

"We played very well in the first half and created lots of chances, but in the second half we didn't.

"We were so comfortable, we were aggressive and controlled the game.

"But West Brom pressed us well in the second half and we let ourselves down."

The bit that has to worry us more though is that we can see that we are making these mistakes and yet we continue to make them. To do it once against Palace was sloppy to do the same in the next game against another rival is just plain careless.

We need to halt this pattern and quickly with home games still to come against Norwich and an improving Aston Villa and with probably around 7 points or more still needed the comfort is that it is very much under our control to get out of this situation but games have to be played over 90 minutes and not 45.

"For me, there were no excuses," added Vorm. "If you don't produce the same mentality in the second half as you did in the first, then you will lose games - no matter who you play against.

"The points were important for them, and for us as well so it is disappointing."
