Pablo's Focus Is One Game At A Time
Tuesday, 25th Mar 2014 07:21

It is easy at this time of season to try and pick out the games where you think you can get the points you need for survival but the right concept and the only thing to do at this point is to take one game at a time.

And that is a view shared by the Swans' Pablo Hernandez who is tipped to start again this evening when the Swans take on Arsenal at the Emirates.

"We can’t think it will be nine, 10 or 11 points [to stay up} because that is no good for us. We must only think about the next game.” Hernandez told the Western Mail during the Swans preparation for the game as they go in search of their first win since February 8.

It has been a long old struggle for the Swans this season with wins few and far between. They are without a success on the road in the league since September and have only managed three wins since the 1st December in the league and currently sit just four points ahead of the relegation zone with just eight games left to play.

They won at the Emirates last season and a repeat of that would do the club the world of good with Norwich up next at the Liberty on Saturday having been beaten last weekend by the odd goal in five at Everton.

That defeat was a familiar tale for the Swans as they dominated for large periods and had the chances to get the win that they so badly desired but in the end it was a familiar tale of defensive lapses that cost them victory and ultimately sent them back to South Wales without a point to show for their efforts.

And they are expected to get nothing from tonight's game against an Arsenal side who will be smarting from their 6-0 humiliation at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

“I think it is harder for us after Arsenal lost 6-0,” said Hernandez.

“The Arsenal team, the Arsenal players, will be very upset and angry.

“For the next game, the team will want a win for the Arsenal fans. They will be furious with the result.

“But for Swansea, we just have to play a good game, play good football and then we can win.”

And that is something that Pablo has spot on - the Swans need to focus on their own performance and not how the opposition may be feeling. We need to be pushing Arsenal at every opportunity and one thing that we have learned in our three years in the Premier League that Arsenal do not like sides that come at them any more than we do. Push from the off and grab and early goal and who knows?

"This week is very important to us. Arsenal away is not an easy game, but we have to try and take one point or even three points from this game" added Hernandez

“Then we play Norwich at home. That is a cup final for us.”

It certainly is a huge five days for the Swans that lie ahead and a minimum three points I think is essential to push us towards safety and reduce the pressure that undoubtedly is showing at this point in time.

How much easier would that see if we could just sneak a repeat of last season tonight?
