There are bad days at the office and that was certainly what the Swans suffered on Monday night as they were torn apart by a Liverpool side who were helped along their way by the generosity of the Swans defence. And midfield for that matter.

It looked reasonably obvious from the first few minutes of the game that we were going to struggle last night as Liverpool closed us down quickly in the early stages and forced silly mistakes and cheap surrenders of possession of the football.

We know that we struggle against teams that do that and so it proved last night with Liverpool having by far the best of the first half although chances were few and far between as a result of that possession which always gave us hope that somewhere maybe we could sneak something.

Fabianski had already kept us in the game with a couple of brilliant saves by the time we went one goal down to a well worked Liverpool goal that was started and finished by Moreno who went through the defence pretty much unnoticed to grab the opening goal of the night. You would certainly say it was a goal that Liverpool deserved at that point in time and in a half devoid of many chances you did wonder whether it would be the only goal of the game.

If that was the thoughts though going into the halftime whistle it soon changed ten minutes into the second half as the game completely opened up but not really to the help of the Swans.

There seemed little danger when Ashley Williams passed the ball back to Fabianski early in the half but a moments hesitation allowed Adam Lallana to close down the Polish keeper and as he attempted to clear it rebounded off the Liverpool player and into the back of the net. It was probably the moment that confirmed nothing would come our way and certainly one that showed that the rub of the green was not going to run our way either. We were two down.

Gylfi pulled one back less than two minutes later and almost straight from the kick off Wilf almost levelled the game but that was probably as close as we were to get to a point as Sterling hit the post before Lallana again waltzed through the static midfield and defence to restore the home side's two goal advantage.

Jonjo Shelvey headed a corner into his own net to complete the scoring on the night which just about gave some reflection on the game to the scoreline even if the main two talking points after the game were of an elbow by Shelvey and a bitch slap effort by Sterling both of which could be punished at some point in the near future.

It was a disappointing end to 2014 for the Swans and saw them slip behind their hosts in the league table with plenty to think about ahead of the next game
