Swans Fans Split On Stadium Purchase

Swans fans are split a little on whether this is the time for the club to purchase the Liberty Stadium or not.

In a poll which has run on here for the past few weeks, 62% believed that the time was right with 38% going against the vote.

The Swans have been at the Liberty Stadium for 10 years come the start of the next season and there has been much talk about expansion of the stadium since we came into the Premier League in 2011.

Work has yet to start on that expansion although there was a hint that some of the money from the sale of Wilfried Bony could be used to fund the start of the work which would take the capacity to around 27,000 and allow a new generation of Swans fans into the stadium.

The council have been rumoured to be ready to offload their asset to the Swans but it has also been rumoured on the forums that the purchase is a condition of the Americans who are looking around the club to buy some of the shares to take part ownership of the club.

In his programme notes in yesterday's programme, Huw Jenkins wrote "Looking ahead to the next few months there are a lot of key decisions to make regarding the way this football club moves forward off the pitch.

"Talks with Swansea Council about the ownership and running of the Liberty Stadium is top of the list, plus making sure the funding is right for us and in place to build the East Stand extension as soon as possible

"There is also the continued upgrading of the Youth Academy to Category One status and additional improvements to both our training grounds at Landore and Fairwood over the next couple of years.

"We have a lot to decide in the next few months that could change the way we operate forever"

It does appear that the stadium will become an asset of Swansea City over the coming months given those words and that could be another positive step forward for a club that has seen very few backward steps in the last 10 years?

Is now the right time for us to buy the stadium?
