York Boss WIlcox - That Was Very Harsh

The Swans eased into the third round of the Capital One Cup tonight with a comfortable enough win over York at the Liberty Stadium but the visiting manager declared it a harsh result after the game.

A first half goal from Nathan Dyer and second half strikes from Matt Grimes and Marvin Emnes were enough to see the Swans go past their League Two opponents and earn themselves an away day at Hull in the next round.

It was a good result for the Swans when you consider that they made eleven changes from the side that started against Sunderland last weekend and it showed the strength in depth of this squad that we can make so many changes and yet still come through the game with ease.

Russ Wilcox though was not a happy man when he spoke to the press after the game “It was very harsh. You need everything to go your way when you come to a place like Swansea and their first goal should have been offside and the second was a big deflection.

“But the lads showed great character to get a foothold in the game after conceding such an early goal. We needed that bit of luck for the ball to go in when Bez hit the bar, then it would have been game on, but the positive was we created three or four good opportunities.

“We’ve just got to be a bit more clinical, but the players and our fans, who didn’t stop singing from the first whistle, were an absolute credit to the football club.”
