Grimes - One Game, One Goal, I'm Happy With That
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2015 06:31 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Matt Grimes scored his first senior goal for the Swans against York and naturally was delighted after the game to have started that particular goal tally after what was quite an impressive pre-season for him.

Grimes arrived at the club from Exeter last January and is clearly highly rated at the club who see him as one of the midfield stars of the future so games like York are a perfect time to continue his development.

He played in the pre-season games for the Swans and proved then that he had an eye for goal which he added to last night despite a couple of chances missed as well. But to miss the chances you have to get yourself into that position and the fact that he is doing just that bodes well for games that he does play.

Grimes of course faces a real fight to get into the Swans midfield in the Premier League but I have little doubt that his time will come on that front and when he does he seems like the kind of player who will grab it with both hands.

Speaking to the official site after the game he said “One game, one goal - I am happy with that.

“I’m really pleased with my first goal for the club.

“I missed a really good chance earlier in the game and I can’t excuse those kind of misses, but I kept plugging away and got my goal.

“I really enjoyed getting some more game time tonight — I haven’t played since our pre-season clash with Nottingham Forest, so it has been a while.

“I felt a little rusty - to be honest it was not one of my best performances, but I’m really happy with my first goal for the club and also for us to progress.”
