King Ready For Cyprus Battle

Andy King knows that Wales will be in for a battle when they take on Cyprus on Thursday this week as they set off in search of the two wins that will create history for the national football team.

Wales have not qualified for the final stages of an international tournament since the 1958 World Cup but that should end at some point in the next few weeks with the squad clear at the top of their qualifying group knowing that two wins from the next four games will be enough.

We have already beaten Cyprus once in this group - a 2-1 win in Cardiff - and will be looking to do the same again on Thursday before facing Israel in Cardiff next Sunday in a game that could secure the biggest party the national team has ever seen.

King was sent off in that game against Cyprus, a game that was physical with Gareth Bale targeted for special treatment as the visitors tried to nullify the threat that he brings.

King is expecting much the same this time around but is better prepared “I will learn from the red card — fortunately the ban was reduced but it was still frustrating missing out and nerve wracking watching the second-half from the tunnel.

“Looking back it might have been a little over the top from me but when teams want to kick us we are going to kick them back.

“It doesn't make what happened all right and I have had to learn from it because to miss two games was disappointing.

“But we have to expect a similar challenge from them, if not more so; they are in their home country so they might think they can get away with a little bit more.

“We're expecting a tough game against a physical team and we have to make sure we're ready for it.”
