Southampton v Swansea - Match Preview
Saturday, 26th Sep 2015 10:30 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The Swans head off to Southampton this afternoon looking for a first away win of the season in any competition and to end a run of three winless games that have produced a blank scoresheet for us on each occasion.

It feels such a long time since the euphoria of the win over Manchester United but we should never forget that we have made a good start to the season and currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League knowing that a win today could really lift us up the table even further.

You can certainly understand where Garry Monk is coming from when he says that there is no reason to panic for the Swans. Monk believes that the over reaction to the last three games has been too much and given that we played well enough against Everton and should have buried Hull he certainly has a point.

It is really only the performance against Watford two weeks ago that has disappointed to date and he knows that his side are more than capable of going to Southampton and getting the result that we desire.

There are nine places between the two sides at the start of the day but a Southampton win will bring them level with the Swans on points and possibly even above us on goal difference that shows just how tight the Premier League is at this point in time.

That tightness suggests that we need to try and get something out of the game as a defeat could see us tumble a fair few places but even then there would be no need to panic.

What we do know is that we won at St Mary's last season and we are more than capable of doing the same again this time around especially if we ensure that the performance levels match those of the five games outside of the Watford fixture.

Team News

The Swans team has been pretty predictable so far this season but I have a feeling that we will see a change from the team that started against Everton last week.

Southampton have a strong midfield and for me that cries out for Ki to come back into the side. Whether that is with a diamond formation or instead of either Gylfi or Jonjo remains to be seen.

Garry was very encouraging of Gylfi during the week and that leads me to think that he will play him and therefore it will be the diamond which I think will mean Jeff dropping to the bench.

Score Prediction

I've got pretty bad at predictions in previews and my season total of ONE point will tell you that I am even worse in the Prediction League so it is probably best to go for anything other than what I suggest here.

My heart says that we will win this game but my head says that there is nothing really to choose between the two sides so I am going to plump for a draw but am undecided between 0-0 and 1-1
