Leicester Targeting Sigurdsson Move?

Today's newspaper reports are suggesting that Leicester City are targeting a move for Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson as they look to build a defence of the title that nobody really expected them to win

Sigurdsson A Target For Leicester City?

The newly crowned Premier League Champions will have their work cut out next year with a minimum six Champions League games coming their way and manager Claudio Ranieri is known to be an admirer of the Swans midfielder who has been such a pivotal part of our side since the turn of the year.

It has been goals a plenty for the Icelandic maestro as we defied the odds in the second half of the season to not just retain our Premier League place but to retain it with plenty to spare and that was always going to lead to plenty of transfer speculation this summer and it is good to see that the papers have no waited for the dust to settle on the Premier League season before it happened.

Of course the source of today's news is the Sun which of course means that it must be taken with a large dollop of cynicism but I think we also all know that Gylfi is likely to be in demand this season given his form and we will do well to hold onto him.

Of course this is an interesting time as he has moved on before and returned from two years at Spurs to advance his career further here and although the achievements of Leicester are to be marvelled at this time around that does not mean that they have become the big force that will naturally attract players of a strong calibre.

The draw of Champions League football though will be a good one and I suspect that the player (and his agent) will know that he will be in demand this summer so this particular position is one that we should keep and eye on closely but we should always remember where we would be this season without the goals of Gylfi.
