The End Of The Baston Road

When the dust settles on this season it will be pretty easy to file club record signing Borja Boston away under the flop category and it seems almost inconceivable that he will be at the club come the new season in August.

When the Swans eclipsed the fee that they paid for Wilfried Bony to secure the services of Boston then expectations were that he would continue the goalscoring form that saw him score 18 times on loan at Eibar last season

But Baston has started just four games this season and it is just his goal at the Emirates back in October that he has to show for his season in South Wales and that surely means that his future in Swansea will not be extended.

Paul Clement is not being drawn on whether that decision has yet been taken but wants to review it when the season ends after the game against West Brom this afternoon.

"He hasn't had the kind of year he or we would have liked for various reasons - but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a future here," said Clement.

"We have to all talk about that and decide what we're going to do for the best of him and the best of the club moving forward."

There is little doubt that inside Boston there probably is a good player trying to get out and it is certainly the case that all strikers need a run of games in the team, something that Baston has never had this season.

His words upon signing last summer were clear "There is pressure, but it is good pressure," he said.

"I want to repay the transfer fee paid for me with good performances and results. Hopefully I can score a lot of goals.

"I want to settle and spend several years here. I am very happy to be here. I am eager to contribute to the success of the team."

For what it is worth I cannot see him being here next season, the question that needs answering though is how much of the £15m we can recoup in any transfer fee
