Clubs looking at taking the best players away from Swansea City
Wednesday, 31st May 2023 11:45 by Swansea Independent

It’s like kids in a sweet shop time as Swansea City’s prime products are being lined up for bids by a plethora of clubs, all of whom sense the perceived disarray at the Swansea.com stadium as an opportunity to get cheap signings. Joel Piroe, Matt Grimes, Ben Cabango, Olivier Ntcham and Ollie Cooper have been mentioned and numerous others we cannot confirm as yet.

The ‘perceived’ disarray from the outside looking in is understandable. Five of the clubs managerial and coaching staff are in discussions to join Southampton, Andy Parslow the set piece coach has left, CEO Julian Winter has also gone plus current the player recruitment position ( Josh Marsh ) is unavailable and hasn’t taken calls for two weeks. The whole player trading model at Swansea relied upon Winter, Marsh and Martin combining their efforts to promote from within and relay the best targets the club should consider purchasing. That also included players leaving and already compared to last year at the same time the wage bill is a million pounds less, and two million less than the year before.

Unfortunately Marsh considered his efforts a waste of time having worked for two months on compiling the exact requirements of the club for last January. None of those names materialised, in fact four of the list of twelve we are told were not even contacted. The last minute effort to sign Karlan Grant from West Bromwich Albion was merely a smoke screen in amongst all the rumours and speculation.

Yesterday evening we were told by two very informed sources who deal directly with Swansea City that they cannot even get to speak with any of the recruitment team at the club that they consider in a position to further transfers. The reason as we have stated is eight of the coaching and recruitment team are no longer at the club, and efforts to find a contact who can actually ‘make decisions’ and do business are simply not available. That means any business in or out at Swansea City has been made that much more difficult.

New Chairman Andrew Coleman is busy moving his family to the UK and this has sidetracked him since his appointment. In any event he has no experience in player trading in the English leagues. There is literally nobody else in a position to take charge. All we have heard from him was a complicated tweet three weeks ago referencing the media as making his new job more difficult, if that’s what he was trying to say ? He hasn’t clarified anything in that time. Since then Jake Silverstein a big part of the clubs majority ownership has been busy negotiating with Southampton as has Jason Levien, both based in the USA, and Steve Kaplan hasn’t really made any remarks since he met with Russell Martin in London in early March.

Clubs are seeing this as a club in turmoil and are readying themselves for some bargains with nothing within the clubs structure making any statements whatsoever. In fact nothing has been said officially on anything other than Julian Winter leaving, and this was news on here nearly a month ago. You cannot blame the Swans being viewed at the moment as an easy target.

We would like to see Swansea City in a position to reassure the supporters of the club in the immediate future, but have heard nothing whatsoever. It should also not be perceived as an attack on the club itself, the problems Russell Martin leaving has impacted dramatically on the Swans. Not only have the majority owners got to manage his leaving and a big chunk of staff they now have to replace him and employ new staff as well. This really needs clarification, if only to reassure and advise at a basic level. Nobody is asking for news that would affect any negations, that’s not the point. What is required is a professional liaison publicly and a return to some positivity surrounding the club.

Just a bit of professionalism please, and reassurance ?
