Swansea City remain out in front for Harrison Ashby’s signature
Wednesday, 2nd Aug 2023 07:00 by @Cornish67David

Newcastle United’s twenty one year old right back Harrison Ashby is most certainly well within Swansea City’s reach and news will materialise on his future by Thursday evening. The Magpies want him to go out on loan in to the championship this season despite the player believing he can stay and fight for his place.

At the time of writing the situation is as follows.

There have been numerous inquiries for Harrison, Leeds United amongst a handful of interested clubs but it’s the Swans who have been persistent in their pursuit of the ex West Ham player. There most certainly seemed to be some reluctance from Harrison to leave the Toon after signing on in January for a fee of three million pounds. What has been made known is that his contract for eighteen months at Newcastle is in the region of a million pounds, which places him on around twelve to fifteen thousand pounds a week. If that is correct he falls nicely within the Swans salary structure.

Eddie Howe did disclose on Thursday that any loan deal was ‘some way off’ which conflicted with media speculation on Harrison last week. Many Swans fans assumed that Harrison was the third medical on Monday after the signings of Carl Rushworth and Mykola Kuharevych, however that seems unlikely now as the player is fit and his medical wouldn’t have provided many issues on the face of it at least.

Whoever that third medical was it either didn’t go ahead, the player failed it or it has been held up.

Add Kristian Pedersen in to the mix and it seems the next few days could well provide the answers with the club tight lipped at this moment in time. And this morning brings another player link which the Swans are keen to keep under wrap. The club are though still ‘very keen’ on Harrison Ashby and the Swansea support will have to remain patient as the process is quite classily taking far longer than many expected.
