Leeds United have correctly been associated by Stuart James of the Athletic as continuing their interest in Swansea City forward, Joel Piroe. That isn’t a surprise to anyone following Piroe’s availability this summer with his contract up at the end of this season.

We reported this morning the details behind Joel Piroe and Nathan Wood and the impracticability of a quick progression regards any deal this week. However, that doesn’t mean that Sporting Director Paul Watson won’t be in receipt of the relevant details as the week progresses. Talk of Piroe and Wood being excluded for Saturdays game away at Preston we can also state is incorrect, unless something dramatic occurs. The only way that would happen is if both players have their values met immediately, and the chances of that are quite slim. However, rule nothing out.

The other decision that has been made is that the Swans will want money up front in any transfer window sale this time around. Yes, there will be add ons but the real value must come in the form of an up front fee. The likelihood of the club agreeing to a deal along the lines of Michael Obafemi’s move to Burnley are almost non existent. In that case Swansea allowed Obafemi to leave west Wales for the Clarets in a ‘trigger’ deal which meant at the end of last season after an agreed number of appearances around three million pounds plus was payable to the Swans. If that type of deal is to be considered then the detail will have to be stacked well in favour of Swansea City.

It’s highly improbable.

Many will refer back to the Dan James transfer to Leeds back in January 2019 and their obvious displeasure when the Swans pulled the plug on the deal in the last few hours of that window. That was actioned by then Chairman Huw Jenkins and paid off for the Swans later on in the year. It was the last real decision that Jenkins made before departing the club. Since then business between the clubs has been strained, and discussions for second string loans when Leeds were in the Premier League hardly moved forwards. If nothing else the Swans hierarchy have a tough approach to transfer business and a wealth of experience to back that up.

The perceived valuation of eight million pounds for Piroe will be laughed out of SA1 quicker than a Cardiff fan with dreams of a double double. What is evident now is the clubs with interest in Piroe are starting to gather their armoury together for a bidding game for his services. Again, the Swans will be sticking to their realistic valuation on the player, rumoured to be around twelve million pounds.

For those asking the question on a new Joel Piroe contract in amongst all this, don’t be alarmed at this latest development, That isn’t to be considered a no go area for the player, all options are now on the table. It’s just that the final details can’t be progressed just yet.

A seriously troubled guy whose tantrums were unaccessible in the modern game! Piroe £12 million plus 3 addons is reasonable as any faithful Swsns supporter would justify! ncswan added 17:24 - Aug 23 I still think anything less than £20M is unacceptable. If Coventry can get £20M for 25 yr old Gyokeres who had 38 goals over the last 2 seasons v. 24 yr old Piroe who bagged 41 goals over the same timeframe, then Swans should be able to command £20M as a starting point. BTW, Gyokeres scored 2 goals in his maiden outing for Sporting CP two games ago. Selling Piroe to another Championship team should not be an option unless they pay £20M.
