How about those Swansea players stop the apologising and start putting the effort in ?
Sunday, 17th Sep 2023 12:50 by @Cornish67David & Liam Walters

Swansea City fans have heard apology after apology this season already and the latest one comes from Captain Matt Grimes for the embarrassing defeat at Cardiff City.

Talking after the game the long list of excuses continued as Swansea City tasted their fourth defeat in six games under the guidance of Michael Duff. We’ve already covered his thoughts on the game and completely disagree with his assessment. Now the Captain gets wheeled out to make his own excuses. Well, how about those players who couldn’t be bothered pay back the fans who could be bothered in real terms ? These ‘overpaid efforts ‘ in a Swansea shirt did absolutely nothing throughout this game.

Many of this Swansea squad are millionaires, bathed in the lap of luxury, not only at home with multi million pound contracts but looked after better than any employee known to the vast majority of Swansea fans. They have everything on offer that they need. Every day they have specially cooked food from their private chef and brigade, the best equipment and medical treatment available, and want for nothing.

So, how about you repay the faith that’s placed in you to wear the clubs shirt ?

Grimes (below) is one who knows the score as a Swansea player, however his performance on Saturday night was as bad as anyone on the pitch. He should be dropped for QPR on Tuesday night because as Captain he sets the example, he didn’t. Talking after the game he said “We just want to say sorry. We’ve had such a good record in this fixture and we just weren’t good enough. I don’t think it was a lack of effort. I think the lads gave it a lot, but moments of quality won them the game. We were nowhere near good enough in the final third and we didn’t create anything of note. It’s a gut-wrenching loss, but we have another game on Tuesday so we have to dust ourselves down and go again.”

The lads gave it a lot ?
A lot of what ? Jamal Lowe was starved of quality ball and when he did get it he looked like a competition winner, there only to play a few minutes of football as a raffle prize. Jerry Yates who since Preston away seems to spend most of his time sat on his backside complaining to the referee was non existent. Both he and Lowe were an embarrassment. The reality is these pampered individuals who clearly don’t care about anything other than their excessive salaries put NO EFFORT in to last nights game. Across the midfield we saw no craft or creativity, Grimes himself the biggest offender constantly giving the ball away. That midfield reliant upon a nineteen year old loan player for ingenuity just huffed and puffed. They looked tired and beleaguered as even minimal effort was not in evidence.

Moments of quality won them the game ?
No, moments of effort won them the game in the face of little resistance. Handing debuts to Josh Tymon who performed averagely and Kristian Pedersen who looked completely overwhelmed was a managerial mistake. Dropping Ben Cabango for this game was a huge error, he has scored goals in this fixture and despite his indifferent start to the season he couldn’t have done any worse on the pitch. Two other goal scorers from last season were also benched in Ollie Cooper and Liam Cullen. These debutants are at home today in the lap of luxury shrugging their shoulders as the fans who spent their hard earned money watching absolute dross prepare for a week at work. Worries about their future in todays unstable economic climate cast aside to show faith in this Swansea team.

All Swansea fans want to see is effort and endeavour in their clubs shirt. We haven’t seen anything of the sort this season bar a frightened and ‘too little too late’ effort at West Bromwich Albion. To hear these repetitive excuses from the captain of Swansea City who is meant to be the fusion between the head coach and the players on the pitch is ‘gut wrenching’ There’s nothing worse than hearing a string of apologies for the same errors over and over again.

It isn’t good enough and again it wasn’t good enough, this week see’s the most important games in Michael Duff’s career as a head coach, get it wrong and the pressure on him and the club for change could well see the trap door well and truly open.

I'd don't believe the players are at fault here, but the coaching staff who have obviously failed to motivate the players! The player's only do what they are coached to do. Yeah there were one or two errors but you get that in every game. They just stick out more when a game is lost! I'm going to is what everybody's thinking. Duff needs to coach elsewhere and it's nothing personal. That team out there was not the Swansea City I have know for as long as I can remember!
