Injuries are the focus for Michael Duff this week …
Wednesday, 27th Sep 2023 08:00 by Liam Walters

Swansea City expect to get firm news today on the latest injury setbacks at the club. Nathan Wood and Josh Ginnelly joined numerous others in the treatment room on Monday morning after Saturdays comprehensive 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

With a pretty concerning injury list already Duff has his fingers very much crossed after picking up his first win as Swansea City head coach. We have had some conversations and it seems Nathan Wood has had a ‘diagnostic ultrasound scan’ which has returned specific details of the ankle injury he picked up early on in Saturdays game. The injury has been diagnosed but now the club need to know the exact damage so it can be graded properly and treated. In the meantime he is wearing a ‘boot’ for protection. That information to an extent is known but the sonography has to be exact. Plus we are told diagnosis sometimes needs to come after twenty four hours stability. Wood will be lucky to feature this weekend, however if he is out there is plenty of cover at the club.

More concerning is the injury to Josh Ginnelly who went down without a challenge on Saturday. He has to be helped from the pitch and his injury is more concerning. We haven’t had any information on Ginnelly but can only hope it’s good news as this is his second big injury already since joining the club. Below is the FA reported injury list, the actual diagnosis may be different but the list of players is significant. All would make some impact on the first team squad if fit and available.

Harry Darling, Kristian Pedersen, Bashir Humphreys and Josh Tymon are all available to deputise at the back as well as Nathan Tjoe-A-On who had an under 21 run out on Monday evening. Pace and skilful forward play is at a premium at the moment - as it has have been for a few years at Swansea. The omission of Ginnelly is a worry. He seemed to be the only player on Saturday willing to run and create chances for the period of time he was on the pitch.

We keep our fingers crossed but the injury looked a bit grim on the weekend.

The Swans will travel cross country to London on Friday to prepare for their next big test which comes in the shape of Millwall who sit eleventh in the Championship, the Swans are twenty first.
