Hull City rivalry through the years & Jan Molby warning
Wednesday, 22nd Nov 2023 19:15 by @Cornish67David & Liam Walters

Swansea City and Hull City have had a pretty strange rivalry which stretches back to the nineties. Swansea City fans have gone out of their way to gain direct contact with Hull fans, especially during that decade.

Almost every game during that time saw both sets of fans clash, and that continues to the present day. This year a Hull fan was sentenced to a year in jail for leading an attack on two Swansea fans at the MKM stadium. Both Swans fans were returning to their transport after the game when they were set upon as described below.

A lot of this came to a head over 2002/2003 when a pre planned confrontation between the two sets of fans on a housing estate outside of Hull saw Hull City fans meet their match and more. There’s no glory in it, but historical fact of this nature shouldn’t be cast back in to the dying embers of the Swans. It happened, it’s fact and is all a part of the rivalry and history between the two clubs.

It was in the nineties that the Swans dominated this fixture, to an extent.

And Hull City took the plaudits in the years 2015 to 2018 before the Swans started

The most exciting game has to be the 4-4 draw in Hull under the floodlights. The home side took the lead on three occasions before being pegged back. And then the Swans went ahead. Disappointingly the game ended 4-4 in front of a sub ten thousand crowd. You can relive that game by clicking on the link below.

People should also remember the last game Jan Molby was in charge at the Swans under another needy and paranoid ownership. The Swans were beaten 7-4. Back then Jan wasn’t enamoured with the ownership of Silver Shield who first attempted to threaten their staff with discipline if they spoke to reporters or fans and websites. Now that sounds very similar to our modern day owners. Jan became a good friend of the Midlands Avon & Gloucester Swans, specifically our site owner Keith Haynes. He saw the agenda of the owners then, and was very much entrenched on the side of the Swans fanbase. Recent history tells us that particular way of attempting to stifle free speech and democracy turned in to a relationship that saw them booted out of Swansea in a matter of two years.

As Jan said "I do not think they wanted me here from the start. I was not their choice and they made it as difficult as possible for me by refusing to let me bring in new players. I think the results have given them the perfect opportunity to get rid of me." Sounds a bit like Russell Martin all over again.

It simply doesn’t work, taking on the fans by way of threats or intimidation. From an historical perspective club owners never seem to learn from these courses of action. But battering egos has been a successful past time of the truly concerned Swans fan.

That 7-4 game is below.

So, for now that’s about it. A sideways look at this fixture with a mixture of fans rivalry and history. Happy reading we hope, What we continue to encourage is contact with all of you who are under this current threat to not engage with certain fans, and obviously we understand your confidentiality concerns. Call us on 07922 565473 or email Swansea.Independent1@gmail.com Many have of late and we expect many more to voice their current concerns as time moves on.

We will always remain and will always keep an eye on the club ownership as they continue to dilute shares of the supporters trust and carry out some quite shocking behaviour. We will continue to poke that particular nest, because we can assure you they are petrified that the information we and others now have will furthermore decrease their popularity.

Swansea City kick off at 3pm on Saturday at the Swansea.Com Stadium.
