Credit to Andrew Coleman : At last we see some action !
Monday, 8th Jan 2024 11:39 by Keith Haynes

Andrew Coleman has made considerable efforts to at least ensure the poorly managed appointments of Summer 2023 are corrected, deviating back to a manager who is very similar to Russell Martin. That has to be the biggest statement we have seen from a club Chairman at Swansea for many years.

We have at times in the last few months had a few questions for the Chairman, not least the USA fund which remains a mystery in not only its value but who is involved in it. What is also unknown is what they have paid in. This is of course the fund which Andrew Coleman put his money in to when he became Chairman. Unfortunately we don’t know how much. Why it’s undeclared nobody knows. A mystery which we will not allow to be shoved aside or clouded by Luke Williams appointment or a successful second half of the season.

However, on that note we have to applaud the Chairman on his tenacity in getting Luke Williams and his team to come to Swansea. And not only Coleman but Paul Watson as well. Some of us at the Indy are still scratching our heads over the ‘Watson Out’ banner at Coventry away in December. However, Paul has worked as well as anyone within the clubs confines to the betterment of Swansea City. His loan signings have in the main been very good, nobody can argue against Charlie Patino, Bashir Humphreys or him closing the deal for Josh Key to join the Swans.

It is though Andrew Coleman we concentrate on today. On this occasion not for what he is saying he ‘will do’ for once, we’ve heard much of that over the last six months. At last we have an example of what he ‘has done’ We will put aside the people contacted before Luke Williams, because he was in fact the right choice from the off. Despite circumnavigating a number of coaches to get there Luke really should have been the number one target.

Coleman : “I think Luke fits our style perfectly and has the ability to take it to the next level, and that’s what excites me about him joining this football club. My job is to lead this club forward. As I’ve said before, there will be steps forward and backwards but we need to learn from them and improve. What matters to me is winning and connecting with the supporters and community. We talk about 'the Swansea Way' and everything is encapsulated in that”

He is right Luke does fit our style perfectly, a style dismantled in June last year when Russell Martin left the club. The appointment of Michael Duff was poorly thought through costing the club financially in not only getting him to leave Barnsley but to then pay him and Martin Paterson off to leave Swansea. A tidy sum better invested in to players. The sacking of Duff wasn’t a surprise but the appointment of Williams will come with a wry smile or two from those who see some identical strategies on the pitch between him and Martin. We carried a feature on Williams last week which was promptly plagiarised and repeated by Wales On Line hours later.

That’s here —> ⚽️Williams feature by the Indy

The skyline is now offering a far bigger vista this month than it has for many months. Even under Martin at times. The efforts of Coleman are to be applauded, the work of the club in this particular appointment has been rewarded. Let’s hope now we see the support Williams wants to take Swansea to the ‘next level’ Credit where it’s due. Fairness in every aspect from us, as it always will be.
