Jerry Yates : Swansea would prefer to sell than loan ‘Blackburn inquiry’
Sunday, 28th Jan 2024 11:03 by Liam Walters

He hasn’t had the best of times at Swansea City since signing for the club in the summer from Blackpool. Jerry Yates came to west Wales with a goal scorers reputation, but his recent form has been pretty poor on the pitch.

Blackburn Rovers have inquired about Yates availability for a loan move over the coming four days. Rovers are keen to sign a front man this week, and Yates has been the subject of an ‘tentative’ inquiry this weekend. Yates is aware. Swansea City are quite keen to see some of the expenditure on Yates recovered and would certainly let him go for a ‘reasonable fee’ Blackburn are aware of the figures, it is expected they will return for talks on Monday. Rumours of a fee of just under £3M for Yates when he came to the Swans are wide of the mark, considering that Kyle Joseph went the other way to Blackpool. Then there’s the content of the deal itself ( we are told )

Alan Nixon reports similar this morning.

Jerry was the subject of a bid from Blackburn Rovers back in 2021 as he fired Blackpool to promotion to the Championship from League One with twenty three goals. Blackpool priced themselves out of any deal wanting five million pounds. Last year a four million pound price tag was put on Yates head and the closest official stat available is that he was signed for £2.4 Million by the Swans. In 2022 when interest in Yates turned up a notch, Glasgow Rangers were among ten clubs with scouts running the rule over Yates. Brentford, Bournemouth, West Brom and Watford watched Yates at Bloomfield Road that year.

It really hasn’t worked out. It has been nine league appearances without a goal for Jerry, some of his recent attempts have been remarkably unlike a player with his goalscoring pedigree.

More as this is researched by the team.
