Vincent Kompany : Swansea are more difficult to press than Man Utd
Tuesday, 3rd Jan 2023 14:37 by @Cornish67David

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany heaped high praise on Swansea City and manager Russell Martin after a game yesterday in which he described as one of the hardest of the season.despite going 2-0 up very early Burnley we’re pinned back and made to work for their three points.

Talking to his clubs website Kompany said. "They have always been a great side for me and I love watching them. There isn’t a single team in the league, not even us, who can manipulate the ball like they do. We went to Old Trafford and pressed and we found it more difficult in the first half here” High praise indeed from Kompany who saw a completely different swans side to the one that folded at Turf Moor in the previous fixture.

It takes a qualified professional to note and understand Martin and his coaches ethos, the fans at times get frustrated though, and that’s understandable. “They’re a hard side to face, they like to press and get in your face, credit to Swansea and their coaches, they switch it up if it’s not working, they did that again today”

On the swans chances of a tilt at the play offs he said. "On the other side of things, when they were aggressive like they were today they look very complete to me. We have got a team that is doing well and so we love the challenge. It has certainly been one of the hardest games of the season for us. When I see there are only five points between 16th and the play-offs, who knows what could happen? I just feel that when I watch them play they are doing a lot right. Eventually it is about keeping the ball out of your net and putting it in the net, so we will see."

For a manager of the standing of Kompany with his football pedigree it’s good to hear he see’s value in Russell Martin’s tactical awareness. "There was more aggression in their game and you could see they were a team putting up a real fight. They were together” This all bodes well for the rest of the season. Between the better performances and maybe two more additions by next Friday is it really possible at last the plan is coming together ? It has been a long time coming but the upsurge in performance and fortune albeit only recently is very good news, especially if Vincent Kompany is noticing.
