if we go a round or two more in the cup and hogan scores against a prem side plus the exposure of being top goal scorer and maybe promotion in league he could be worth more at the end of this season instead of selling 6 months into a 2 year deal...

A lot of people are saying "if Hilly is happy with the deal then it's fine".
How could Hilly be happy with it, in all honesty? If he was asked, finances of the club aside, whether he wanted to lose Hogan, his answer would be no. The alternative is that he has to find a replacement (instead of a foil for Hogan), bed them into the club and hope they carry on where Hogan left off.
Hilly might make the right noises if this deal goes through, but I don't think he would be happy about it. |  |

The improvements are a huge success. But I don't believe that merely existing is being successful. I'd hate to see us slip back into our old ways. Is it coincidence that when we've been ambitious we've also kept the wolf from the door? |
But what do you mean by "old ways"? Pre-Kilpatrick and desperation or more recently the "between Hill spells". One was bad management by the board and one - primarily - by football/player management.

My point, I guess, is that Hilly's thoughts or opinion probably don't matter one jot as to whether Hogan stays or goes. If Dunphy likes the price, he goes.

but that took some steve eyre levels of delusion to even suggest them figures

We're simply "victims" of our own relative success - or Hilly Is - but as Hilly said just recently, he doesn't believe in being a victim under any circumstances.
He brings on young players, they start to achieve their potential, clubs with bigger budgets want them. It's a fallacy that any footballer will stay with one club out of loyalty. That's no denigration on Scott Hogan - he's simply acting like a professional.

Don't underestimate KH and the squad. Scott Hogan missed 4 games through injury: Newport (W 3-0), Cheltenham (W 1-2), Northampton (W 3-2) and D&R (L 3-1). Of course, I'd rather he stay, scores the 20+ goals we are hoping for, and then, perhaps, chooses which - bigger than Posh - club to move to. Presumably, if he's played for NW clubs, he's from within 25 miles of Dale, and would he - would anyone - want to relocate to Peterborough? | | | |

I've spoken to two people about this. Their response "typical".
There's being a selling club and there's being an open shop. Far too often we're an open shop. It doesn't really attract new fans.
I'm a Football Fan. When you tell me the finances are good I don't expect our players to be sold easily. I don't take any pride on not being in debt. If I cared about supporting finances i'd buy shares. I don't. I am a Football Fan. You can achieve success without going bankrupt, although reading some peoples opinions apparently this is impossible. |

All I can say is there are a lot of people out there with massive illusions about what being a lower league football team is about. D_Dale got it bang on when he pointed out that some of our best results were achieved when Hogan was injured.

Apart from other possible 'snags' (mentioned elsewhere) it might just be that Dale have agreed the transfer fee, but Barry Fry doesn't like the idea of a 30% sell-on clause.
Having sold a player for £8 million he will be frightened of getting his fingers burnt and having to fork out a further massive sum in the future. |  |

I fully agree that those who have the "huff, typical Rochdale" reaction aren't those who we regard as 'true' Daleys, but nevertheless there are countless people like this who don't attend Spotland that regularly, exactly the type of people we're trying to attract, who really will think this is just typical Rochdale and be put off coming once again. | | | |
