One of my favourite visits. Fortunately, I am only 90 mins on train away, and Anglia rail doing a day return deal (specific train times only). For those with a Network Rail card, you can do a 'Split' ticket upto Ipswich (It doesn't cover all way to Norwich). If driving, I wouldn't recommend parking too close to ground as getting away is bad and there will be xmas shoppers as well. There are some schools locally that offer parking on fringe of town. Can't remember names, but you will probably see signs. It's a shame it is an early KO as there are some decent pubs in the City. I am not a big fan of Wetherspoons, but won't knock their prices and this time I will be going to Queen Iceni on way to ground for a breakfast and quick beer ! Looking forward to another win ! I saw the extended highlights of Ipswich v Coventry. It was noticeable, how Cov played with such a high line. On numerous occasion Ipswich just exposed this by playing over the top, and Coventry struggled with Ipswich pace. If Coventry play like that against us, Fellows and Armstrong should have a field day, unless the back line decide to play rusty ball at the back, in which case they will close us down very quick. |

Big questions again today over the substitutions. Scienza and Armstrong were probably our best 2 players, taking them off with 30 mins to go (inc 6 mins extra time) didn't make sense. They were still lively and creating chances. I can only assume he was saving them ahead of mid week game ? Aribo and Romeu replacing Azaz and Jander on 80 mins, was a risk. Both Aribo and Romeu looked way off the pace and Birmingham took advantage. As mentioned earlier, Aribo was lucky to only get a yellow for a reckless challenge. He lost the ball easily and then chased player and took him out. In last 10 mins we struggled to get ball away, defending deep again and inviting Birmingham on to us. We did move the ball quicker today, but missed some very good chances. Finally, their keeper made Bazunu and McCarthy look world class ! Bazunu did ok today, but again beaten from outside the box. We march on ! [Post edited 6 Dec 18:31]

It was for all the wars he has solved. It was 7 last week, but I heard him quote 8 today, so he must have sorted another war out this week ? I did laugh when he said to a journo today that he doesn't need awards, he just wants to save lives. I lost count how many times he said he should get a Nobel peace prize ! [Post edited 5 Dec 19:17]

Why are they doing the draw now with so many play off games still to be played ? Admittedly, I haven't been paying too much attention, but what have I missed ? It's so confusing. [Post edited 5 Dec 19:08]

An expensive day and early start for a quick day out for somebody who is not passionate about Saints ? The support was ok. I have seen/heard better, but most (certainly more that 150 people as suggested) got behind the team. I accept the Millwall support was good, but there were long spells where they went quiet and they were on top most of the game. Splitting Saints fans between upper and lower tiers (not sure how many were in the upper) probably didn't help. [Post edited 2 Dec 8:30]

Jury out for me as well. We have had a good run and agree the team has responded to him. Happy to continue with TE and see how it works out. However, it was disappointing to return to old ways, playing across the back for long periods, and creating little in the process. Millwall did press well and put us under pressure, but they won't be the last team to do this, and we have be more creative to deal with it. Whilst we were missing a number of key players, I am not convinced, it would have made any difference yesterday, because of the way the back line played 'keep ball' for ages and side to side. We started the game like this from the off, and It was obvious that it wasn't working, but Tonda did little to change things, in fact bringing Aribo on made it worse, and as much as I like Romeu he looked slow. What a frustrating day today. We slipped back into our old ways, of playing across the back for too long and again the wide men were left isolated. It is no co-incidence that when Stephen plays we are slow and predictable playing from the bank. Millwall deserved it today. They worked hard and kept us in our own half for long periods. We defiantly missed Leo, and his driving runs. Aribo did nothing when he came on. he Looked slow and offered nothing going forward. We looked weaker when he came on. This was my first visit to Millwall. It was abolsuite hell hole to get away from the ground. Kept waiting on the bridge for 40 mins, waiting for home fans to march past Saints fans and police cordon. Finally, to the group of middle aged guys arguing and threatening each other during the game(Block 50), grow up ! [Post edited 30 Nov 8:01]

 | Forum Reply | Is Tonda Eckert THE ONE? at 06:04 26 Nov 2025
I didn't really know much about Eckert before he took over as interim manager. My initial, thought when he was appointed we should be looking for someone more experienced. However, he does seem to have got the team playing, installed some belief and got fans behind him. There is no panic to appoint anyone at this time, especially as there are no stand out candidates. Eckert should continue and we re-evaluate again later. |

Would agree with Butty on this. Steve Williams. Deserved far more England caps (6). Not sure he would have lasted 90 mins in many games today ! Would like to have seen Toby Alderweireld stay, but turned out to be another mercenary who dumped on us from a great height ! [Post edited 25 Nov 9:08]

We just look clueless. In the first half we barely registered an attempt on goal, and then the second we just pumped aimless balls into the box, with no end product. We have slipped back into playing Rusty ball, going from side to side, creating nothing. I think Downes only touched the ball twice ? Whilst I don't rate him, he had no service. It was all so desperate. |

I have calmed down after Blackburn game and going for a 2-0 win. If not, this will definitely be end of Will Still. With regards to any protests, I am not against these, but hope it is not during the game. By all means before and after, but we need to get behind team during the match. |

You must have this wrong Pat ? She promised not to raise tax ? Surely she wouldn't go against that big manifesto pledge and last budget promise :) Ironically, I do actually agree with increase in tax, rather than all the tinkering around the edges, with various stealth taxes, If it needs to be done, this is the easiest and fairest way, Talk of ISA allowance being cut, when we need people to save more for retirement would be a negative move. It would also affect mortgage lending as well, which will impact their (unrealistic) housebuilding targets, The whole welfare systems needs a massive overhaul as well. The number of people on PIP is out of control. No coming back from this, if she does go ahead with tax increase. Will be an interesting budget ! [Post edited 30 Oct 7:24]

Did anyone see him remonstrate with Wellington after his needless sending off against Blackburn ? All our bench did was watch on. I am not sure that it was a straight red, but stupid and reckless challenge non the less, when we were chasing the game at the end. Well done Scienza. |
 | Forum Reply | Blackburn Game Matchday Thread at 17:07 25 Oct 2025
Up until now I have been prepared to give Still a chance, but the substitutions today were absurd. When Stephens came on after 68 mins for Scienza, we had 6 defenders on the park, just inviting them to come at us. I really wanted him to succeed and avoid the succession of managers coming/going, but this is obviously not working. If he hasn't lost the dressing room already he will after today. |

Now down to 10; Wellington sent off for stupid challenge, As he went down tunnel, Scienza let him know what he thought as well. [Post edited 25 Oct 17:02]

****ck. 1-1. You just is was on cards when we tried to defend this and play deep. Not sure what McCarthy was doing, very slow to react. Just seen again, Quarashie should have cleared it as well. Now Charles injured. Looks like we have just pressed the self destruct button again. [Post edited 25 Oct 16:41]
