India’s 14 year old boy wonder, Sooryavanshi, has gone potty in the other semi, 68 off 33 balls. He might end up as the richest sportsman that ever lived [Post edited 4 Feb 13:38]

He really is an unusual sight on the touchline, like a history teacher trying to explain medieval crop rotation to Year 9 on a Friday afternoon, the Patient One rather than the Special One. Ordinarily I’d say good luck to him, but I’ll make an exception. |

Might even have been goal average that long ago. My second game, taken by my future ex-uncle Paddy, though I had got glasses since the first and could actually see the ball. We were in the School End, and me and my brother went down the front and made monkey noises at Peter Mellor, Fulham’s peroxide blonde goalkeeper, because we thought he looked like a gorilla. Wot larks! |

I got caught out last season, only had a tenner, my son had nothing. Still, he said he enjoyed his half. |

Now THAT’s an idea. I’d much rather watch us against Benfica than sit through Manchester City passing to each other. |

From behind I couldn’t work out how he’d got it in and even the Sky highlights were a bit indistinct, but everything about it, particularly the elevation off his heel over the keeper’s hand, was unimprovable. Still love Vale’s rip-the-net-off comic-strip blooter against Wrexham though. |

Interesting. Nothing on Morrison? Sounds like Michi isn’t the only person with a Michi tattoo! I’m going to have to face the fact that I’m never going to have a “camp”. |

The Wicker Man! Brilliant film, really original. Not the remake, obviously. [Post edited 2 Feb 19:30]

7-0 up in five-a-side showboating! It was a bit of a blur for me from my seat, only appreciated the mad skillz later on video. |

Well, I missed Charlton, Stoke, Hull and West Brom. My first win was Birmingham. The only other home game I missed was Oxford. 13 dropped points from 5 games! |

To be fair to Bennie, it was really clever play by Eccles and probably planned. You see it really well in the beardy Coventry fan's YouTube. Bennie tracks him as he runs into the box, past the penalty spot and between the centre backs. I don't know if the protocol is to leave him to Dunne and Cook, or keep following - either way, he switches off as Eccles doubles back into the space left by the striker who has moved from left to right, followed by Edwards. The important thing is that they work out what has to happen next time. On the ref, though I wanted it to be a penalty, I thought he was above average by recent standards. What really enrages me are refs who are super strict for ten minutes, then lose their nerve when it comes to making big calls, or who allow outright violence but get shirty about free kicks from the wrong place., or who make decisions based on nistrionic reactions rather than facts. Kone benefitted from his tolerance of physical competition but was rightly booked for a foul, and in general it didn't look like the players were taking advantage of him. Smyth to me looks short of form of confidence (injured perhaps?). I'm a fan of his attitude, but from quite early he looked nervous, his control was shaky and he rescued his embarrassment by going down for dubious free kicks. I don't doubt he'll bounce back though. Sorry, deeply ungrateful of me to get so far without thanking Clive for the cream on this weekend's cake. At 1.45 pm, I could barely muster the energy to walk to the front door but at 5 pm I was floating above W12, the needle having swung from "Wrexham" to "Birmingham". [Post edited 2 Feb 10:52]

He was lucky all the Lime bikes from the C&S to the ground weren’t already taken. He might have missed their goal. [Post edited 2 Feb 10:15]

I wonder would Premier League teams try this with Arsenal? Arsenal might be so confident of a precise delivery that they would be happy to take the risk and have more up to rough the keeper up. |

Charlie Daniels in the dugout, you say? The devil went down to Watford. I was going to ask where Julie ranks in the table of the Championship's longest-serving managers, but Watford sacking another one won't move him at all. |

I agree on their goal, it was very cleverly worked by them. Bennie has got a lot of blame for it, including at the time from Edwards, but it was more complicated than just missing the extra wide man on an overload. Edwards followed a striker in from the outside, but Eccles actually then peeled away from the centre to a wide position to meet the cross. Bennie had tracked him but maybe thought he could hand him off to Dunne or Cook. Lessons learned, hopefully. |

Not yesterday, though Crawley won again. Nice to see the comment from the Crawley fan below the BBC report praising Harrogate’s “outstanding” no. 23, our very own… |
