Had to give up my season ticket of 33 years a few years back Sadly don’t make many games and unlikely to add many more to my away grounds tally Makes you feel a bit detached Then you get the match reports and previews in these here pages and that connection stirs…. albeit remotely I totally get how overseas R’s like Silky find them vital |

Don’t trust the fella - not sure I ever will. The state of the sports science side is well documented and his loyalty to his mate is highly questionable there. However, I’ve been on the record for giving him credit in removing the culture of mediocrity that used to pervade at the club. The shake up well overdue at youth and development levels that had a losing culture for ages; I still Don’t get the Furlong departure as he actually delivered. This is his third season and it’s judgement time now. Let’s see where we end up but so far so good for him, us and the club |

Interesting you mention this and a post above mentions the Liz Truss mini period of mad office. Now Truss was/is a buffoon; absolutely no denying that and God knows how Rishi lost out to her originall. However, the Bond sell off her mini budget prompted is oft cited as nearly breaking the economy and the ramifications of it still around. I took interest in it as it had a really bad fallout to me personally and meant a sharp deviation my own life plan. What a lot of people who chuck the “Truss Mad Mini Budget” seem to not realise is this is now actually an accepted tactic across many governments and people don’t even raise an eyebrow. You are bang on that it is happening again now and rates have actually been higher than Truss’s worst moment. That’s an inconvenient fact for the red tinted spectacles. There’s no easy answer and none of the politat have the answer. I don’t either by the way! This country does need a short sharp shock but it’ll be too late very soon. I’ll be buying lots of baked beans in my shopping today. That’ll have me sleeping soundly tonight |

Thought he’d have his own thread after that performance today. Proper gutsy Made a few errors but far far fewer you’d expect of a lad his age; confidence is growing each quarter of a game he gets through. Really good contribution throughout with his block tackle in the second goal a highlight. However, what I loved was his attitude - check him out at times boosting up more senior players around him; his body shape and positioning demanding the ball and he don’t take no nonsense from any oppo player. He’s also no slouch In the confessional I’ll admit to Father Steph that I never thought this lad would be a player at this level….. wrong |

Sack race hotting up isn’t it? Eustace a strong favourite alongside Burnley’s man It would not shock me to see Alexander bombed out at PNE despite not yet unpacking his crayons and Watford always looking good for a change (must be my turn to run them soon). Dark horse has to be Wilder at Blades with a sneaky look at Parkinson at Hollywood FC an all |

Thought you were describing my relationship with my wife but I see you mean rowing not….. In terms of gadget I got a turntable that you could pop your first generation iPod into a slot and it was supposed to download the vinyl track and convert to a digital file on said iPod Loved it - for about 5 minutes. It filled the iPod up memory wise with about three recordings and two months later the first gen iPod wasn’t supported by Apple anymore in any case That aside - the iPod absolutely blew my mind when it first came out. Still remember not getting my head around how you could have so many songs at your fingertips with no cassettes or CD’s |

Despite the hype around Lankshear et al; the one player I’d loved to have got before them was Callum Brittan Every time I saw him play for Blackburn I thought he was mustard Solid, always available, brilliant engine and my days can he cross a ball |

Are they referring to strikers and midfielders made of glass? If so, I’m on board. It’s a bit concerning and my first thought was the hysteria it could cause. That and it’ll send my old fella bandy and he’ll be buying two dozen of everything rather than the dozen he buys now even though one would suffice [Post edited 24 Oct 0:06]

I'm no physio, fitness expert or cycling guru....... but my opinion remains that athletes at the tip top of their game, who are robust and peak fit do not get injured unless extremely unlucky. In a contact sport you have that random factor where someone can clatter your ankle, you can fall awkwardly or a spotty kid from Bolton can scythe through you. Those random contact injuries are understandable and forgivable. What is an absolute scandal is where you know your in form striker has him hamstrings at explosion point, your top midfielder running on fumes, players with heavy strapping and niggles yet you don't rehab them fully. That only serves to compound signing the cast of M*A*S*H to compete in one of the most arduous Leagues in the bloody world! Lamptey point in case. When he signed I was pretty incredulous on that thread and got shot down - it was shock to me that a player with that injury history would even consider joining a club with our track record. Think I said I'd be amazed if we got 12 full games out of him and, surely, he's drawing a wage from our slender budget for the other 34 games. Try and convince me that's VFM without tying me up and feeding me large amounts of MDMA |

Not digging at you mate. My frustration at the clubs approach to transfers has been there for years. It's why I hate that glossary "if there wasn't something wrong with him he wouldn't be here" tag. It's demeaning to a proud football club formed in 1882 and such a terrible standrard to have. I don't trust the current people steering the ship but I'm not going to sit here and say they haven't done some really good things, those are clear. What they have categorically failed to do is build an upper level Championship squad that has to also be patently clear to everyone. 24 Osman Kakays is one side of the coin - game player but lacking at the level. How about 24 sets of Jermaine Jenas', or Alex Dyer's or Luke Amos'??? I'll stick my pith helmet on and march off grumbling... "we can't 'alf pick 'em..." |

If you're going to buy a load of high performance cars with dodgy service histories and known risks then you best have a damn fine fleet of the finest mechanics and engineers to make sure you can use them. I'm boring myself with car analogies and our player availability / proven runners that get you about and aren't parked on your drive looking good and "cooking". Declan Rice is an extreme example but... if you add up the wages per week that are never available to play I bet it is a tidy sum and would easily equate to 2 or 3 robust proven Championship players who'll give you 46 games a year. I'd stake a large sum on Burrell's injury being a reoccurance of his ruptured hamstring so that is quite possibly his career at a high level down the pan. Totally agree on investing in this area but Williams has to be part of the problem -- just look at the correlation of his time here. The rumours about the players canteen and his attitude. Whispers that certain players openly saying the approach to fitness is a joke and employing their own PT's. I say again - if you're going to invest in players that need huge focus on their health then make sure you've got that covered. Anyway... 13 wins to get. |
