The Eckert Effect?
at 10:09 25 Oct 2026

I like him but hes not the best manager we've ever had. Let's keep some perspective.
For a start u cant compare Premier league managers we had with those that only managed in the EFL. Its clearly a much harder job.

Let's also not forget that Tonda also cost us out chance at the PL last season. We cant just gloss over that.
Also he is yet to put in these performances every week. After the Bolton game I dont recall any glowing references.

But... he definitely has something about him the players respond to. He seems distant but clearly gets his message across well.
It will be fascinating to see what he can do if we get to the Premier and i hope we back him. I also think hes unlikely to jump ship the moment a bigger club comes calling.
Hes doing a fine job, but he still has plenty to prove.

We don't seem to have had a robust striker since Beattie. There a time that a target man centre forward was the toughest guy on the pitch along with centre halves.
Stewart was made of glass and every second on the pitch seemed like a risk.
Larin is not much better. Hes had a bad back and now a hamstring yet even when fit he never completes 90 minutes. He even has his hand permanently strapped, does this man never heal?
I don't dislike him, hes decent when hes fit and firing, but its frustrating we are always trying to work around fragile strikers. It makes the whole team inconsistent.
As someone else said, I fear we'll come up short due to our lack of goals.

Salisbury v Sholing FA Cup

Yeah i was in the Archers with the Millwall fans and spent the entire game next to some bloke in a donkey jacket and shaved head. He never spoke or sang. He just stood there and was the most scary bloke I've ever seen at a football match. He literally looked like he was going to kill everyone at any moment.

I had four of them for my subbuteo until I accidentally crushed one.

Other than that I remember being at the Goldstone in the late 80;s and they had them. I remember Saints fans were watching the game from half way up which looked distinctly precarious but the cops couldn't get them down.

The Adam Blackmore Interview
at 14:13 16 Oct 2026

That just sounds like you have your own agenda against "main stream media". It really isn't that deep. I doubt the director General of the BBC said "get word to our man Blackmore down there in Southampton to give that German guy a good kicking. It will be good for us at the BEEB if he gets the sack at some point".
Football fans are so fickle and Tonda is going ok at the moment so he cannot be questioned which is frankly ridiculous.

From a tactics point of view he took a big risk with his line up and fiar play he just about got over the line. However had it not paid off then we would have lost out of 3 points at a time that everyone else is beating Norwich. So questioning his thinking is fine, we're not there to kiss his arse all the time.
Secondly let's not forget there would have been no witch hunt by anyone if he hadn't cheated. I'll never be convinced he "didn't know the rules". There are certainly people at the club who would have said "Er we don't and cant actually do this".
So if I were Tonda I'd still be on a bit of a charm offensive at least for a while. He kept his job and gets support so snapping at local journos the moment you think you're in the clear is yet another bad look.

Some will say he went to Norwich and cleverly used the bare minimum of his assets to get the three points. Or you might think that he tinkered and very nearly blew the game by picking square pegs in round holes and was lucky to get away with it. Either way, people are entitled to ask questions.

Abbott
at 16:26 15 Oct 2026

yeah definitely a game where the result was better than the performance.

In my opinion Tonda took quite a risk resting those he did for the game. Our line up looked very compromised and it was hard to see where a goal would come from. I don't know why he decided to take quite such drastic action but some would say it paid off, but certainly not by much.
Norwich are a team that many thought would be competing at the top end and they may well still get there, so those three points could look extremely valuable. It can be a very tricky place to go.

I though Azaz was excellent again. He's a level above most on the pitch and can change a game with one pass.
Despite the line up tonda did the right thing by subbing Manning and Abbott at half time. I don't know if Abbott was trying too hard but he looked like a red card waiting to happen.

I didn't like Tonda's attitude after the game when questioned by Adam Blackmore. He was asked about the line up and whether he understood the sense of surprise before the game. He basically replied that the didn't like the question and he didn't like the fact he was being doubted.
Tonda it's your job and it was a legitimate question. After what you've done, you need to remain humble for a while and take the applause where you get it with good grace. But also understand that you still have to answer questions - particularly after a squeaky one nil win.
You win seven nil and no one is asking that question.

But on to Bolton, another winnable game and hopefully a stronger starting line up.

Time For One Of Those Special Days At St Mary's On Sunday
at 13:11 9 Oct 2026

Totally agree. Plenty of people sing anti pompey songs every week - well, this is THE week to let them have it to their faces. No silences, no nervous murmurs if they actually manage to get into our half, just noise and fury.
I couldn't get to that Arsenal game but i was at West Brom and the crowd were amazing. West Brom had lost before they stepped on the pitch. We bring that on Sunday and it'll just be a matter of how many....

The Calm Before The Storm
at 11:11 24 Sep 2026

Today is the day then.
A few thoughts.
First im glad it'll finally be done. Just get on with it and move on.
Second I am sick of other clubs managers and fans spouting their opinion. Mostly its steeped in self interest and a holier than thou attitude.
Thirdly I wasnt a fan of tonda initially but he certainly seems to have something about him. He doesn't come across well but he clearly gets his ideas across to the players. I will be annoyed if we are forced to sack him as it just means another club will snap him up at the end of his ban.
Lastly I cant help it all nonsense. Clubs fiddle their books, make illegal payments and break psr rules and no one raises an eyebrow because its incomprehensible to the average fan. But they can understand a kid by a tree with a phone so they have gone for us in a big way. The hypocrisy is ridiculous. Does anyone really believe we're the only ones that have done this?

PS Regardless of what the club say, surely they have a man lined up if the worst does happen.

Five things about Wrexham
at 14:38 21 Sep 2026

No i wasnt. I've never quite got the hype and the thinking that hes better than Ramsdale.
He pulls off some great saves no doubt, but every game he charges from goal and misses the ball, or flaps at a cross. Other keepers would get way more stick, I've no idea why he gets a pass.
We have no clean sheets and a 25 million pound keeper sat on the bench.

Two things seem certain every wqeek.

First Scienza gets kicked around and either shrinks from the game or goes off like Saturday. I'm sure our opponents all know this and target him now. Kick him a few times and he'll cease to be a threat, and frankly, it works.
Secondly Peretz makes one big error every week. Sometimes it costs us a goal and sometimes we get away with it. This week he could have done better with their second. Sooner or later we are going to turn to Ramsdale.

Five things about last night
at 09:11 9 Sep 2026

All good points.
When we are positive with the ball we look an excellent side. At the start of the second half we decided to play conservatively and before u know it we were on the back foot. They pressurised us high up and we continuously gave the ball away.
I know its my hobby horse but peretz had his usual calamitous moment when p'ing about and gave the ball straight to their striker on the edge of the 6 yard box. He got away with it luckily but he seems to be forgiven for flapping at crosses and poor distribution when other keepers aren't.

Then they scored and youre right, everything changed. We decided to go forward with intent again and suddenly there was only one winner. Everyone did well but Azaz really makes us tick. Honestly if he played with more confidence and arrogance he would be the best player in the championship. Overall a great performance.
