I think Mbengue is very good at rb. We wouldn't really find anyone better. He seems to get less bookings there too. |

Remembering last year Kolli came on after 28 minutes for Lloyd. Varane scored from a Kolli pass for 1-1. Then I think errors led to some of their goals but Kolli scored in first half added time to make it 3-2 at half time.
In the second half we gave away a penalty for 4-2 and they went on to fill their boots.
With Burrell probably out and a week on the training ground, it's a good time to put three in centre midfield. Smyth should play at least the second half but should be on the right. Ideally Chair on the left, or Kolli if fit otherwise Saito. Kone the lone striker. |

Overall in the first team, he has scored 8 in 47 games. 1882 minutes which is the equivalent of a shade under 21 games.
8 n 21 seems a better scoring rate than most of the forwards I can remember. [Post edited 5 Jan 12:22]

I agree with that too. The effort that is being put in is being severely hampered by the lack of energy due to too many matches and some players playing too many minutes. |

I think I read somewhere he picked up an ankle injury from a bad tackle and was going for a scan.
We can't get insurance for him, The NHS has been on strike and there has been the Christmas period, so we are still waiting.😁 |

Agree with he should have been on earlier but for Burrell. Kone battled away and generally was reasonable. Burrell has lost his edge, the pace and stamina that made him so effective. |

Posted this on the match thread but feel it is appropriate here:
I was at the game. There was no lack of effort from any player. There were poor and/or tired performances from some. There was also some good or reasonable performances from Hayden, Kolli, Nardi, Madsen, Mbengue and Kone.
Smyth's pace is wasted when he has to cut in from the left and when he is trying to stop an opponent he needs to stop diving in and missing. Stay on his feet and keep with him.
Burrell looks shattered, has lost his zip. Fatigue caught up with Jimmy and Norwich kept forcing him inside onto his left foot. ND also tired. Dembele tried hard but little came off. Poku ditto. |

I think Hayden had a knock and was probably flagging a bit. Unfortunately Morgan had a bit of Vale-itis. |

Don't know what to expect with this one. Veers from being ropey to very good, light touch to picky, anything goes to every contacts a foul and sometimes all in the same game.

Yes, JamesB, I'd agree with most of that but I think he'd was put up there to try and win the ball high up the pitch, win it back early when we lose possession. I thought Sam was ok up there but team wise it didn't work too well, maybe because others were losing possession on a regular basis and not pressing very well.
I'm not trying to say there may not have been better options, like Paul Smyth, but trying to rationalise the selection. |

Amongst my surprise and the shock/horror of others with Sam playing as a deep forward or attacking midfielder (alright no10 if you prefer), I paused and considered hasn't he played that or a very similar role before?
Didn't the bloke who has never managed in London, select him in a more forward attacking role?
Didn't he play in a similar role for Marti on occasions like the 4-0 Leeds win? |

He should be but we have been short of options at lb.
I can't see that changing until we have two fit left backs in front of him. Realistically that's not happening until Larkeche is fit. |
