That wasn’t our normal gameplan. Both teams went at it from the start and we were way more open defensively than we have been all season.

How often do we leave players unmarked on the six yard line? We did for both of their opening goals and they cut through us with ease for the penalty.

Everyone knows our gameplan. It didn’t work because we didn’t execute it.

Edit - to answer your question, no. I don’t think anyone played well. We were well off the boil individually and collectively.

International football is so evil it even made Tymon and Widell have bad games yesterday.

I was expecting to see him and Ross Stewart in the second half. Possibly Matos didn’t want to bring Monga into a flat team going through the motions.

I expect a lot more next week. Eom starting and hopefully Monga getting a cameo.

That’s the best summary I’ve read. Forget tactics and team selection, we just collectively didn’t show up. No excuse for it.

Need a big response next week. Anyone 50/50 on going, now is the time to get behind them.

They wouldn’t have been confident of putting 5 past us at 3.08 either. They probably won’t do it again all season.

I agree, Matos has a huge week ahead of him. Last week could have gone either way against a top team. Today was different. We let ourselves down big time.

That wasn’t about QPR. It was about how shambolic and uncharacteristic our defending was. Not taking anything away from them, they took their chances and held us at arms length professionally, but anyone would have beaten us today.

They were, but they were 2-0 up before the game got going. It’s very easy to shut down the midfield and pick off teams who overcommit from that point. Not that they didn’t do a good job of it.

Second half was damage limitation. I think he may have gone all out if we had gone in at 3-0. There was no real attempt to get back into it second half, either from the players or the bench.

My first reply disappeared.

By a long way. Let’s not pretend this was coming or was a reflection of how we’ve been playing. There was something really wrong with us defensively today, both as a unit and from individuals.

First time we’ve really let ourselves down, but we did it in spectacular fashion. I can’t think of any positives other than a couple of teams around us also dropping points.

Over to Matos to get them firing for Blackburn next weekend. He has to prove that was a one off.

25% of the season gone this weekend: Swans injuries & fixtures that matter

I’m not suggesting the reports he hasn’t been turning up to training aren’t true.

I mean we don’t know what’s going on for him personally to make him act the way he has been. Plenty of high profile players have suffered like this before.

Whatever it is, it seems to have been managed well or he’d be back at Man City.

We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. I very much doubt he’d rather be locked up at home than playing football.

Both clubs have evidently decided it’s worth persevering with.

It’s hard to put yourself in the position of a seventeen year old moving to a new club and city where he doesn’t know anyone, with the burden of massive expectations.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of it, if we’ve now reached a breakthrough and he’s going to be eased into contention, it will be like a new signing just as we’re going into a really difficult looking run.

If he lives up to his reputation, our wing options will be frightening.

Great news about Monga. Shame for Ronald.

The run of fixtures from now until the end of November will really show where we are. Plenty of people (football accounts on social media mainly) have repeatedly pointed out we’ve had a kind run of fixtures and it’s a fair observation.

Three of the next four away, two of which against contenders, then West Brom, Middlesbrough and the derby. My guess is we won’t still be top by the end of that, but we’ll be within touching distance and in a group that will have started to pull away.

Nowhere to hide. This is Matos’ opportunity to force everyone to take us seriously.

And that’s all it came down to really. Missed chances, a possible red card not given at the end of the first half and West Ham manipulating the head injury rule to stop our momentum. They had a spell early in the second half where they could have killed us off. Outside of that, we created the better chances.

Southampton, I’ll accept were better than us.

I do agree we need to score more goals, whether that’s being more clinical or creating more chances.

I wouldn’t sacrifice our defensive resolve for it though. That’s essentially what people need to consider when asking for a flair player.

I think you’re one of the best posters on here, but that paragraph about Cardiff is pessimism personified.

Putting aside they probably won’t put five past anyone else all season and up until then had scored less and conceded far more than us, it would be easy to score more goals, but then we’d have to accept conceding more as well and almost certainly wouldn’t be top.

West Ham have scored a lot and to be fair, they were sublime against Wrexham. Lincoln playing over an hour with nine men skews it a bit though.

Looking at the whole picture is sensible, but to do that, I believe you need to acknowledge how many Cardiff concede and where they are in the table, rather than cherry picking the one game they ran riot.

To me, it doesn’t look like it’s going to end soon. We had a great season under Steve Cooper, but it felt like we really rode our luck and had more points than we deserved early on. This feels different.

Yes, we may not finish top two and we will have a bumpy run at some point, but we are going to be challenging all season.

The only thing that concerns me is a bigger club coming in for Matos.
