He’s had years to blood other options across central defence and left back and give experience to younger players but he prefers to stick with his favourites even if not playing or out of form. He will occasionally drop a younger player in but maybe for a game or a sub appearance or two. Why has Maguire played virtually every game?
That’s the problem with long gaps between series : you have to pretty much watch the whole of the first series again to remember what it was about before starting the second series.
Why on earth would the scum be interested in him: totally the wrong fit I’d think.
Would think the natural step for him would be to Brighton: as Kompany has shown a season getting battered in the Premier League doesn’t help your reputation so he may want to avoid that at Ipswich.
Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t give him another season but he’s been alright this season. Hope Cifuentes can get the keeper he wants at the right price. Didn’t think the Rotherham keeper was a play out from the back type.
A lot of people may have their summers ruined if Begovic is given another year: his ‘we go again next season’ and not being included in the club’s goodbye messages indicate it’s a strong possibility.
He was part of a much improved defence, was available every game when the other options were a big worry, and we’ve had far far worse. Did some bad stuff and did some good stuff: would’ve given him a C.
Personally would be happy for him to be here next year, ideally on the bench as back up to a new keeper who fits into Cifuentes, style better. I’d get Walsh out on a season long loan at L1 level.
I assume Torquay must have been playing him further forward?
Interesting that Plymouth are allegedly looking at him as they will have more people watching every Torquay game than us as they are neighbours but Torquay have only just avoided relegation out of National League South so level is low: would expect he is too good for that level and will stand out. Needed a loan at a higher level really.
Not surprised we have released him if he couldn’t get in the first team squad ahead of Drewe or Kakay in 2 years though.
Yes that’s obviously very important but definitely not all that matters. We still finished near the bottom down to the playing squad: with a number gone and surely more to follow then we need better quality replacements.
No other club would take and play a QPR 16 year old regularly: logic suggests we develop them for a few years and if they are developing well then it’s an easier sell to other clubs to take them and play them regularly. No point in having 21/22 year olds in the development squad if they’ve had no league experience elsewhere as it’s too huge a jump to Championship level.
As said before the pathway to becoming a regular 1st team squad member surely has to be a decent playing loan at National League or above for starters which as a club we still have poor results at. How many of those released players have had decent loans spells if any?
Injured last season so didn’t get a chance to progress: hopefully the plan is a League One or Two loan next season which will give him a chance to shine. Would expect a one year contract with a QPR option of a second year: if he does well on loan then get him into first team squad and new contract: if he doesn’t push on then he leaves at end of next season.
Low cost gamble to me and worth taking as forwards aren’t cheap to buy so try hard to develop your own if possible.
