Wagner and Monk both hit with touchline ban
Monday, 27th Feb 2017 17:41 by Tim Whelan

Garry Monk and David Wagner have both been fined and banned after the fracas in the recent local derby, but thankfully it’s the Huddersfield Town boss who has been penalised more heavily.

David Wagner has been given a two-match touchline and a £6,000 fine, with Monk’s penalty being half as much in both categories. In addition, both clubs have been fined £10,000 for failing to ensure
their players "conducted themselves in an orderly fashion", which presumably relates to the ensuing exchange of views on the touchline.

The FA said in a statement: "Mr Wagner admitted entering the field of play in or around the 89th minute, in contravention of FA Rule E3, but denied a further breach that his behaviour upon his return to the vicinity of the technical area amounted to improper conduct. However, this breach was found proven following an independent regulatory commission hearing."

It seems a bit odd that Wagner thought he’d done nothing wrong once he’d got back to the technical area, given that he angrily pushed Monk out of the way once the latter had stepped across his path (see photo). The German might think that was perfectly acceptable behaviour, but the FA were never likely to agree.

Both managers will serve their touchline bans with immediate effect, so Wagner will be in the stands for his side's FA Cup replay at Manchester City on Wednesday and their league game against Newcastle on Saturday.

And the BBC reported Monk will watch serve his ban in his side's match at Birmingham City on Saturday, so they’ve obviously failed to notice that a rival broadcaster has already shifted this game to Friday night for live coverage.
