That was the first Steely Dan album I bought and about the fortieth in total, I also bought Countdown and Pretzel , didn't really rate the subsequent ones. First album I bought was this...

That album cover sums up a magical time, better music, better football, sunnier days, no moslems, no paedophiles, no cctv.
Must have seen Quo ten or eleven times at the Gaumont between 76 and 90 odd. I sort of support them like I support Saints - I'd go and see them every week if they were playing in Bordeaux :o)
Mine was The Beatles red album in a charity shop. The first one paying full price in a shop was Raintown by Deacon Blue. I still like the track 'Dignity' from that album

Trilogy by ELP. Bought in Wax Records (think it was) in Pound Tree Walk - place on corner and had to go upstairs - in town and paid £2.50 which for me was a fortune in about '72 ish!

I bought the first album of Rattle and Hum in Southampton , I queued outside HMV by myself and they had to go find it when it opened , now that is Desire.
Bit of story this one sorry . My dad kept playing his Gene Pitney album and I knew every word of every song . So when the shop around the road from me (sholing road ,itchen- it sold alsorts of things ) had a copy of his latest album in the shop window ,I kept walking past it on the way to my nans for what seemed like weeks , I saved up my pocket money and brought it all on my own . I was 8 or 9 at the time . It's called " "Gene Pitney - 24 hours from Tulsa greatest hits volume 1 . " I played it over and over till me ears bled and could mime every word and expression .
keep the faith coyr

can't remember the first album I bought, but the first single I bought was in Shirley. It was Fats Domino's Blueberry Hill . It was bought wth my paper round wage, I was 14 I think, so that would make it 1958...
doing the same thing only results in the same thing
The first album I earnt was The Floaters by The Floaters. I had to score more then 40 ( double or trebles didn't count ) with 3 darts at the Netley Marsh a Steam Engine Rally. It was a great year also got the record high score on Track and Field.
First single I bought was Special Brew by Bad Manners , I couldn't play it because it didn't have a middle small hole , it'll had a big one , what was the point in that ?
I remember the 'Weston Hart' shop in 1970's Fareham High Street. I was always in there when I was young - listening to some album or other in the 'listening booth'. Memories of listening to an album before you bought it with your hard-earned pocket money!
