Anyone voting Conservative must be mad ? 11:40 - Nov 6 with 31193 viewsladyjack

Anyone voting Conservative must be mad and or selfish, the majority of people are politically illiterate due to a lack of interest in politics and that many people are selfish and that lots are brainwashed by the media and press but anyone voting Conservative will be helping to continue doing lasting damage to the country and i'm a so called Welsh nationalist where in a perverse way a Conservative majority would be the best possible result in helping to break up the UK so that an independent Wales would then have the opportunity of voting in a party that distributes wealth more equally, I wouldn't want to see even more and more extreme right wing policies enforced on the people.

Come on, you are making excuses now.
Labour are riddled with oddballs who support all kinds evil people.
At best Corbyn is a useful idiot.
But I think his ideologies make him a dangerous person to run a Party let alone a country.

Well when a life long labour supporter and MP resigns, ie gives up £70,000 a year and says Corbyn is not suitable to be the party leader who do you believe?

Probably realised that Corbyn isn't going to rob off the country to line his pockets, as he'd always been led to believe a career as a politician would bring him.

Corbyn’s brand of Marxist socialism has never worked anywhere at any time in history - latest example, the sad and sorry Venezuela, and when we have one of his cronies declaring that ‘Britain should not have any billionaires’ you know you’re in the politics-of-envy territory - big time. It’s not what I would ever want for this country and it’s certainly not what I’d ever want to experience, especially at my time of life. And I doubt any of you would either.
The top 1% of earners in this country pay roughly 28% of our taxes. Are they going to stick around if Madman McDonnell moves into no. 11? This country is one of the best in the world to live in, even with all our problems, that’s why people risk and lose their lives to get here to live and work. Corby and co would destroy it. They won’t get the chance, if the polls are correct, and I hope to God they are.

I disagree.
It might be marketed as the best country, but certainly doesn't feel like it.

Get a grip.

Go and spend some time in the slums of India, in Cartel-run Mexico, or pretty much the whole of Africa and tell me the average person in the UK has it tough.

Yes it's all relative but the idea that land-value tax grabs and compulsory equity handouts will create some socialist-heaven society is bonkers. A pure race to the bottom.

Never said we had it tough at all mate. Just questioned your statement that UK is one of the "best in the world to live in".

Aye and look who stuck their big dirty noses into Venezuela - the USA. Sanctions and clandestine military support to claim natural resources.

Quite right Jackrme. I was beginning to despair at the vaccillations of the Labour Party, and Corbyn's reticence about coming out and fulminating at all the iniquities of our broken society, but over the last few days I've been much more impressed by him. He's looking something like a statesman, rather than the student protestor that he's been for too long.

Set against the contemptible squirmings of Mogg and Ridgen and the alternatingly blustering and invisible Boris, anyone with any sense of decency, whatever their prior political leanings, should now be starting to think Labour could only be a better option than this corrupt pack of hyenas that call themselves Conservatives, or those deceitful chancers the Lib Dems

This is one of the few things I agree with Labour on, billionaires isn't about the politics of envy. It's an amount of money beyond comprehension. People dream of being millionaires, not billionaires - hardly anyone would know what to do with that sort of money.

And billionaires aren't sticking around anyway - a third of British billionaires have relocated to tax havens in the last decade - https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a-third-of-british-billionaires-have-moved-to (paywall, but what's visible says it all).

Someone on the average wage would have to work 34,482 years and 9 months to earn £1 billion. It's an obscene amount when poverty is rising. When you listen to their interviews, Labour seem to be saying these people should be targeted if they're doing all they can to avoid paying their fair share. Seems reasonable to me. When these people and corporations do everything they can to avoid paying their fare share of taxes and move money offshore taking it out of the system it screws us all over.

But what is a fair share? If the tax legislation is leaky enough to allow billionaires to carry out these activities then it needs to be tightened up. But the risk you run is "fair share" becomes an open account for the Government to come after you with punitive action and you end up with a situation where "fair share" just becomes "more".

Consider the unintended consequences - business owners who own companies that employ thousands of people, suddenly less able / incentivised to invest; not forgetting that a significant amount of philanthropy is carried out by these individuals.

You are also into the arguments about whether you consider the Government the best judge of how to spend other people's money / tax.

Just playing devils advocate.

Do you think they sit around all day counting their money and wondering where to spend it? Tremendously old fashioned view of wealth. It’s more like their wealth is a by-product of their commercial and intellectual activity. Do you think that people like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs set out to become billionaires? No way. Their ambition was to found technology companies based on an idea that they had nurtured - a pc operating system n the case of Gates and a desktop computer for the masses in the case of Jobs. Their fabulous success resulted in them becoming extremely rich, but that was a by product of their brilliance and entrepreneurship. They have created thousands of jobs and generated vast wealth through the taxes they have paid. That’s how free-market capitalism works. If you have a windows pc or an iPhone, you’re a direct beneficiary. If Jobs was alive he’d be worth about $23bn and he’d be worth every penny.

Gates didn't nurture an OS, bought one in, in terms of what became called MS-Dos. As for WIndows, OS/2 developed jointly with IBM was far superior until Gates shafted IBM...

Paul Allen was a far greater mind than Gates, yet Billy boy got all the credit.

Gates is and Jobs was an utter sh1t of a person...

What’s any of that got to do with anything? I’m well aware of the evolution of pc operating systems and the innovation that was Windows - inferior to Apple’s offering apparently at the time. That’s all semantics. My general points hold. And your comments about their personal qualities are inaccurate and irrelevant.

No, and lot of wealth is tied up too.

Apple eh? Worth a $trillion and they're fighting a $14m tax bill. That's 0.000014%.

That'd be like one of us owning a typical house, maybe having a hundred £k put by in a pension pot, quibbling over a tax bill of £4.20 on our total worth. I suspect it's just about affordale for Apple when they're holding $252+ billion dolars of profits tax free off shore.

A bit like someone on an average salary being told to pay 40p annual income tax bill and them trying to get out of it.

Also, without wishing to sound like a Corbynite, their wealth is a by-product of their workers. Yes, the ideas and entrepreneurship lead the way, and need to be nurtured and encouraged for the sake of jobs, but the workers make their wealth.

Hmph.
